Engine conversion but not told insurance or DVLA-What to do?

Jesus, everything's a heated debate!. Recap:

*Guy buys car
*Guy chucks a bigger engine in
*Guy insures car based on original engine capacity
*In the event of a smack Guy is not insured, anyone he hits however, is
*No harm done

Personally I would declare it. But only because I would be expecting a payout if it got nicked. And that's the only reason (if it was worth say <£1000 I wouldn't bother registering the swap).

While what the guy is doing is morally wrong, it's not as if what he's doing is particularly dangerous or even stupid. He's certainly taking a risk by not notifying his insurance, BUT the only person who's going to lose out is him in the long run and only in the event of an accident.

While i would certainly be giving him earache about it, i wouldn't report him to the DVLA.

Wait till he brags about it on an internet forum, then grass him.

Seriousely, I'd leave it, given his choice in transport (and yes I am blatently stereotyping owners of modded Crosa here) he'd probably get noticed by the old bill sooner or later.

Given he current regard for the law I can't imagine he drives in a slow and subtle manner.

I don't the mentality of some of the replies in this thread. Last time I checked I can't drive an MPEG/MP3 on the road and stack it into someones car/house etc.

Personally for me and no doubt I am Mr Naive but I have more beef with the MOT rather than the engine swap.

How many other things are wrong with the car that he just let through for a cheeky pint etc.

I mean yeah m8 I know the brakes are a bit dodgy but I'll sort em later etc. No worries here's your certificate.

Things like this seriously pee me off - I'm paying for my insurance , road tax, getting it through an MOT each year etc and people like this just can't be bothered.

i can easily get pics of the car.

but this guy is a sort of mate. ive told him again and again that his insurance is worthless but he doesnt care.
if i do grass him up he will instantly know it's me as well. that's why im hoping someone else who has beef with him grasses him up.

You could quite easily get him in trouble, the only dilemma is whether you do or not.

Hence this is a moral dilemma thread and belongs in GD.

If you want to be a grass, then grass him. Obviously you think its 'wrong' that he does this and are looking for encouragement from peers on whether to grass.
