Engine Conversion Price?

A local lad whose very much into his 205s charges about £1000 all in (inc lump etc) for fitting an MI16 to any 205/309 GTI. Sounds pretty similar to me.

I'd be happy with £1000 all in.

Does the donor car have to be a 205gti or will any 205 do.

I can see the idea, but, I must agree its FAR easier to just go buy a ready built car with bigger engine and everything else matched. I.e. a bigger engined model of whatever.

I thought a while back of getting some performance mods for my car, but decided if I really wanted to go faster, the simple solution would be sell it & buy say a 740i.

My Insurance wanted another £200 for a chip change and free flow air filter (!) Much more of an increase than it would have cost me to change up to the more powerful 740i !

I decided to keep my current car. :o

Engine swaps only make sense if it's not possible to buy the car with the engine already fitted. I've always been tempted to get a Astra gsi, sell the body kit to some chavs, fit wide steelies and merit badges and go and play.

It'd need to be the 205 gti. There's a lot of differences between them and the smaller engined models.

Whats the point when you can buy one? :)
thast pretty much my idea on engine conversions, i wouldnt bother if i could buy a car that already had it.
hence penski is posting mk1 astras, they never came with a c20xe so imo perfectly acceptable to convert, the mk2 and mk3 did however :/
if you are putting in an engine that is not availible from stock then i am all for it:)

any post 1988/89 205 has XU mounts on subframe and engine bay
pre 1989 you will need to have an xu engined 205 (gti's),or cut the engine mount out a of a gti and weld it in, its not that bad a job once you have the engine out.

the mi16 is an xu engine.so basically if its a 1990 1.1 junior then it will go in exactly the same as if it was a 1990 1.9 gti (bar fuel pump etc) :P

a friend of mine has done a similar conversion to his pre 88 205 xs, putting in a 220bhp 1.9 turbo technics engine, this needed the old TU engine mounts cutting out and an xu engine mount welding in.

I thought it was the case that with a gti you could use the gearbox and driveshafts as well? Where as any of the others wouldn't fit.

any BE series box would fit, these can be picked up for as little as £30 (since they are used throughout the whole citroen/pug range)
so its not a big deal

Didn't know that - thought it was stock. :/

Uber-rare 'boot' version!

Now THAT with a C20XE or (my preferance) a 2.0 8v running gas and a turbo would be fun.

*n

A friend of mine has a boot version Mk1 Astra, resprayed in Focus RS blue, totally stripped out with buckets, running a c20xe, and sorted suspension (possibly some good coilovers, not sure).

It's rapid round the bends, and great fun!
