Most annoying, yesterday on the way home from work a new light appeared on my dashboard.

Once parked up I grabbed the handbook, and checked the nice neon warning.

"Engine Malfunction", and states to take to a ford garage immediately.
2001 (Y) Ford Mondeo estate, 2L 16v ghia.

Another weekend of running around trying to fix a car.

My luck with cars isn't the best. shall we run a sweepstake as to the problem? :)

I left it sitting for an hour last night and started it again, still *** light was on. nothing sounded out of place, but didn't take it for a spin. Could be absolutely anything I suppose, any ideas from the Ford boys here?

cheers!
Lawrence.

Our car which is exactly the same except ours is a ghia x it turned out to be the EGR pipe that had dislodged itself. I put it back and cleared the fault code with my OBDII reader. Fault code was something like "emmisions control system - output unexpected for relative input".

If you don't have a reader, take it to a garage asap (doesn't have to be Ford) as although it could drive and sound right, it might be serious.

i managed to get it in 2pm this afternoon at my local place. They work on all the family cars and friends families. Always done good by us innit :)

I will see what they say. I did have a look on the net, ther eis about 2000 errror codes that it might spit out! We will see.

It has had a rattly timing chain for a while. Fingers crossed it isn't that!

Out of interest how much is a reader, and has it proved a valuable tool?

Pretty much the exact same thing happened to me this morning (VW Polo), I'm going to phone up a garage on my lunch break I think. :( Very annoying.
