Vindicated? They knew about it before. They didn't make the decision not knowing about the allegations.Definitely, I bet England's managment feel fully vindicated on not picking Toney.

Vindicated against the backlash from the press and the fickle football fans.Vindicated? They knew about it before. They didn't make the decision not knowing about the allegations.
The FA have charged Ivan Toney with over 230 breaches of betting rules. No doubt that played a big part in him not being selected.
I guess much will depend on the detail of the bets. Sturridge ended up with 4 months for just a handful of breaches, when friends/family bet on his possible next club. Trippier got 10(?) weeks for something similar. If the bets were just random bets on other football matches, not involving him, then maybe he gets off with a couple of months but if there's anything linked to transfers or his own matches then he could be out for a very long time.Jordan Stevens got banned for 6 weeks for 52 breaches so you’d think a huge ban incoming but this is the FA so I’m sure there will be little consistency
Well no, because if this wasn't happening there's no way they don't go with him ahead of Wilson.Vindicated against the backlash from the press and the fickle football fans.
Trippier got 10 weeks didn't he? I imagine is found guilty Toney misses the rest of the season.Jordan Stevens got banned for 6 weeks for 52 breaches so you’d think a huge ban incoming but this is the FA so I’m sure there will be little consistency
That's a matter of opinion, not fact. Because we'll never know.Well no, because if this wasn't happening there's no way they don't go with him ahead of Wilson.
It's not simply a case of the number of breaches but what these breaches were. Sturridge (and Trippier) were charged after friends or family placed bets on their transfers. This type of thing and or players betting on matches they're directly involved in is a big no no. If Toney has only been betting on random matches or things he's not involved in then, although against the rules, isn't quite as bad.Sturridge got 4 months for 11 betting breaches. Though it was 6 weeks until the FA appealed the decision so it will be interesting to watch what the FA do here.
The maddest thing about betting rules regarding transfers is the FA hold players accountable if any information they provide leads to somebody betting on that transfer happening. It's crazy you can bet on transfers, new managers etc when these are not chance occurrences or possibilities. They are absolute certainties.
But even if they don't tell their mates, there are certain people that are going to find out. Removal companies, relocation specialists, estate agents, tax agents, accountants, even the babysitter! The maddest thing about betting rules regarding transfers is the FA hold players accountable if any information they provide leads to somebody betting on that transfer happening.
A player could be making a life changing transfer, moving city, country or even continent and they're expected not to tell pretty much anybody just in case that person places a bet on the transfer.
Well he's been charged so it clearly is still an issue. This isn't a PL rule but a FA one - there's a blanket ban on betting for all players, managers, coaches and club staff*.It looks like it was over a 4 year period, 25 February 2017 and 23 January 2021.
Until he joined Brentford in 2020 he was playing in the lower leagues. If he stopped betting when he joined Brentford, this might not have been an issue?.

The muppet has already said he's picking his favourites over in-form players. The non-playing Phillips over Ward-Prowse makes me sad.
