England Squad

Surely we look at current inform players rather than those who have played the longest? Who would be better alternatives?
Vardy, had southgate not ignored him for a world cup and pushed him to retire

But have to agree we should take in form players. It's why I find southgate annoying. He says he'll take form, then doesn't. He didn't for the world cup and hasn't since.

No issues with Calvert-Lewin being in the squad. Yes it's just 3 weeks of very good form but who is the alternative? It's not as if his inclusion is keeping out somebody that deserves to be in the squad.

I'm glad to see Harvey Barnes in there! Shame Maddison isn't called up but I guess Southgate is worried that he's still not 100% which is fair enough. The one I would say is odd is Kyle Walker. If you're telling me he's on form after his display at the weekend..!!

Anyone can have 3 good games. He's been about long enough for us to know this isn't his usual standard.

He was good last year as well despite playing for a smaller club having about the least creative midfield in the league. Harry Kane was around long enough too before he took off. I don't see him as anything other than 4th or 5th choice but he deserves his chance.

Completely disagree. Top players shine even in bad sides. He's been average his whole career. Nice comparison, pretty sure Kane was on loan until his first full season and has scored consistently since.

He did shine last year in a very very poor side. Depends which way you want to spin it, he got 4 less league goals than rashford, 5 less than Mane and 3 less than Aguero. I bet he got a lot less chances. Again it's not like he's shutting anyone out that when fit won't get his squad place. More to the point who do you want in instead?

So you would rather pick a player by reputation, over those in-form playing well, scoring goals?

3 games does not mean someone is in form....

EDIT

Let me clarify that, short term form should definitely not be rewarded with England caps.

Again you're not answering who you want instead, or are you saying they should just not pick anyone? Again, he was in good form last year as well. Do I think he's in the top 3 strikers in England, nope. Considering the current options he deserves his chance.

So many of these kids are just not professional enough anymore. That's why they start with this huge hype and die out. So many with huge potential and think they have made it when they get picked for England.
