England vs Eqypt - **Spoilers**

I've never rated Crouch when I've seen him play in the Premiership, but you have to say that he "fits" into the England team. Somehow, someway, he just works in there. His hold up play and touch is getting better all the time, and he's able to bring in to play other players around him, as well as scoring goals.

You see for a player who's that good on the international stage, or has that good a scoring record I do expect him to be much better in the league, which he isn't.

Shame, I don't rate Crouch as a footballer, but if he could carry the England form in to the league my views would change on him.

No I wouldn't.

It's just that you said ''why is Owen not going?'' and it was answered, and you also said ''why is Jeffers not going?'' and that was answered too.

You used both examples to back up your opinion that Crouchie shouldn't go, both of which were pointless imo, so I was just checking where you stood with regard to Jeffers so as not to introduce any further confusion.

The England team has to be more than just the 11 best players in England. They have to work well together.

Fabio is the first manager in a while to realise that.

Feel free to keep ranting though, I've said it in many threads that I don't rate Crouch and wouldn't have him in the England team, goals or not. I just don't feel he is a good enough footballer.

Other people would, thats fine I have no problem with him playing for England he scores goals and I will support whoever wears the England kit.

Nobody is ranting Tummy, it's just a conversation, I'm merely trying to ascertain your reasoning for not talking Crouchie to the world cup. I'm continuing to pursue the matter as your reasons for not taking him don't appear to make any sense.

I'm open to the idea of not taking Crouchie, providing I can be convinced not to take him, you yourself have said he's outstanding for England, he's an England striker that scores a fair few goals for England, but yet you wouldn't take him because he's not a good footballer.

To me, that's a contradiction.

the main reason I wouldn't take Crouch is because while he is 'amazing' against small nations in meaningless friendlies and qualifiers I don't think he would cut it against the bigger teams in an actual competition.

As opposed to the strikers who weren't even able to 'cut it' against the 'small nations'....

Rooney didn't score against Egypt, does that mean he can't cut it? I think strikers like Defoe, Agbonlahor, Rooney, Owen and so on would have a much higher chance of scoring against the likes of France, Germany and the other big teams.

A fair point but which strikers do you think would cut it against the better teams?

Edit: you answered that before I posted, how many strikers are we allowed to take anyway?

Well, by the same logic, even if Crouch doesn't score against the likes of France, Germany... it doesn't mean he can't 'cut it'.

defoe, rooney and lampard couldnt cut it vs egypt.. sack them all..

crouch doesnt really fail to deliver... defoe hasnt started to begin thinking about delivering. same can be said for the rest of them, apart from maybe rooney.

as many as we like within the squad limits I think, but realistically 4 or maybe 5.

I just think that if we want to have a chance of getting to the latter stages and not fall to the first slightly challenging team then we want to take the best players available to us. Crouch may have a great scoring record but that doesn't mean he is the best striker.

Until he is given the chance against the big teams, in the big games; It is more than a little unfair to say he couldn't cut it.

With the performances he has put in for england when he's had the chance, there can't really be any of choice but to pick him. Otherwise what would be the point in him playing friendlies, if he was to ignore the players that excelled in those?

No, he isn't englands best player, but he DOES have an exceptional strike rate when playing for england, and that's what is needed from a striker.

He HAS to go to the World Cup.

So what would be everyone's choice of strikers? Atm, if England were to take five, then my selection would be,

Rooney
Crouch
Defoe
Heskey
Owen - obviously if he's fit and scoring goals, but if he's not fit then it would be Agbonlahor.

No, he isn't.

But nobody is saying he is, just that he should be going to the WC as he is one of the better options.

Do you seriously think that Crouch will cut it against a good side?

You think he'd get goals against the Spains/Brazils/Argentina/ et all ?

I think Crouch has a good record for England and indeed scores goals, but he's not a good enough footballer to score goals against better opposition, look at him in the League? Plays against a good defender and that's him quiet.
