England

My answer was serious.

Even though you might think it, we don't live in a place what your GF is going to get robbed, stabbed or raped when she walks out the door. It's very unlikely that such a thing will happen.

Non-english speakers are in the minority in the UK, so called because there are so few of them.

Chavs are over played by the media. If you think they are a new edition to the social make-up of this country then they ain't.

The government isn't trying to give you a heart-attack; in case you haven't noticed it's the entire first world that's suffering, not just you and not just the UK.

The NHS can provide excellent care, but you rarely hear about the good side because it's a soft political target. As an example, the feedback I get from foreign mothers I know is that the pre and post natal care provided by the NHS is vastly superior to anywhere outside Scandinavia.

No-one is laughing at you. You need to realise that as a British person living in Britain you're pretty much at the top of the pile in terms of the quality of life you have available to you, regardless of what anyone says or what the newspapers would have you think.

+1

I've lived abroad and loved it and I travel extensively throughout Europe, SE Asia, Africa and Central / South America. I would love to live in Scandinavia for a while, probably Africa and perhaps SE Asia as I think that they all have great things to offer, but I don't think any of them are 'better' then the UK, just different with their own pro's and con's.

That's a perfect summary of what people are mentioning, IMO. Thread Starter, I agree with you as far as wanting to move away and the downsides to the last 20 years of UK progression. Hence I plan to go to university in Scotland (yes - it's the UK but I'm currently in London and hating it) and spend some time in Iceland.

However what makes me want to move is the culture and general social "vibe" that I've experienced (particularly in Iceland) since travelling around. As a side-note, it's probably because of my will to be in a more open environment, which Ireland and Southeast England could also provide.

I go to Dewsbury market every sunday , the place has been destroyed by immigration ,the people who dont see a problem tend to live somewhere nice with their heads buried in the sand.
The graveyards are vandalised with black power slogons on them ,the asians have running battles with the eastern europeans and there must be no reference to christianity at christmas , people have come here thats ok but they havnt integrated thats not ok

True, but it could also be the other way around.

See, I've never seen 'running battles in the street' (not since the poll tax riots anyway), the only graveyards I've seen vandalised ar those done by drunk kids or to Jewish graveyeards.

Having no reference to christianity at christmas is a load of rubbish; these stories come out every year and 99% of them are utter rubbish. It's usually the same story recycled every year and rarely are they true.

I love England, but then I live in the place which supposedly has the highest quality of living*

As with most major countries, the problems are regionalised rather than widepsread.

I'm becoming less and less pleased with the UK. My cousin emigrated to australia last month, i'm jealous as hell, but couldn't possibly think of doing something similar as my son lives here with this mum (we're divorced btw). Even though my partner would love to go.

Lol, truth be known, i'm more pee'd off with our crap weather than anything else.

We bought our house in january 2008 and the vendors up and left....and went back to Canada. They are dual-nationalists as they spent 6 years in Vancouver and their kids were born there, but were themselves born and bred in the village we live in. They couldn't wait to get back because they said the standard of living was far better.

Is anyone else starting to hate it? Don't get me wrong, I'm British and proud. And as most Brits, would stick up for my country if anyone non-brit were to **** it off. But it's just not making much sense to me anymore. It's just... depressing.

I've bought an apartment here and in the current climate don't really have a viable escape plan, and I try my best to enjoy it. But it's just horrific, and seems to be getting worse by the day. I feel like I don't want to leave because I was born and raised here, but it almost feels like I'm being pushed out.

My city is full of people that can barely speak English, immigrant and chav alike. I can't let my girlfriend go anywhere without feeling guilty she might be mugged, raped, stabbed or worse. English people like me seem to be just as ****ed off and as a result we've got no real internal relationship between 'British people', my government is trying to give me an economic heart attack before putting me into a queue for the NHS. Yet it seems like everyone else that doesn't fall into the category of an Englishman/woman trying to make a decent living without ****ing everyone else of is having the time of their lives in my country sponging off the government and benefits.

I feel like a bit of a mug, and I feel like the rest of the world is laughing at me. Please tell me I'm not alone.

No swearing

Way to get sucked in by the hyped up media bandwagon

The running battles have been in the local papers afew times in that area mainly the Raventhorpe area , Heckmondwike graveyard has had loads of abuse and its true about the lights theres no reference allowed only winter or santa references allowed .(turn on this week i will check them out again)
dont get me wrong most of the time everyody does just get on fine but theres a lot of places that are no go areas that were nice when i was a kid in the 70s, when im in Cornwall the contrast is massive

Strangely a friend of mine has moved to Canada about a year ago and he hates it. All he seems to do is work or commute with next to no time off. He's stuck in a typical suburb with not a lot to do and really wants to come back to the UK but his Canadian wife doesn't. She has never lived in the UK though, they met while he lived in Germany.
