Tottenham star Jermain Defoe has dismissed fears he could be out of action for a lengthy period with a hamstring injury.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp confirmed Defoe faced a spell on the sidelines after sustaining a hamstring problem in training on Thursday.

It was thought Defoe would be out of action for at least a month, but the England international is confident he will be back to fitness in ten days.

"I think I'll be all right in around 10 days. It's not as major as people think," Defoe told the Daily Mirror.

"But because I pulled up in training you have to be careful like the manager says. He's absolutely right, you have to monitor these things."

Defoe will miss this weekend's clash at Stoke as well as the FA Cup quarter-final replay with Fulham next week, but the striker is optimitic of a speedy recovery as he is quick healer.

"I don't get injured that often and normally the type of injury I have takes around 17 days to get recover from. But I think I should be OK before that." added Defoe.

"I pulled up with a sharp pain in training on Thursday and went for a scan which showed I've got a grade two tear. Normally its two weeks but I think I'll be all right."
