English & European Football [24th - 29th Apr 2010] **spoilers**

At the end of the day football is a business, winning games gets you into finals and get's you more money. Mourinho couldn't care less about how exciting he makes the game from your sofa.

In part I agree. It's all that's wrong is football shouldn't be a business :( it's the beautiful game. It's all wrong.

Did you watch the first leg? Inter attacked Barca quite a bit, got 3 goals in the process and done what they had to do in the 2nd leg which was to stop Barca scoring 2 goals.

Barca are a fantastic team, they pass great, attack fantastically and have one of the best players in the world. Inter are also a great team with great players, they are also top of their league and that isn't done by just defending.

Now you say a bad day for football was that Barca did not win and go through, now a certain Barca player got a hand in the face but fell down like he got shot, rolled around a bit then peered through his hands to see if Motta got sent off - so for me it was a bad day for fair play as Barca really don't do that often.

Are we ignoring the diving from both sides?

Inter player shouldn't of raised his hands. Stupid to do so.

He raised his hand to hold off the player which is quite common in the game of football but he accidentially caught the Barca player in the face yet he went down like a cheating sack of ....

As for diving it's part and parcel, even English players do it now :(

I don't really get "anti-football".

Football is attack and deffence. I love to see some excellent defence, why risk a counter attack by pushing forward when your 3-1 up. It may be "anti-attacking" but it's damn intelligent football.

I can't see why people are complaining about the way inter played. First leg they played an extremely good counter-attacking game which suited their team setup with the pace they have up front. Second leg well we can't really say how they would have played for the whole game but with a 3-1 agg lead I think most teams would aim to shut out the opposition...I guess that's why none of us are managers and mourinho is, and has won the trophies to go along with his credentials as a top man-manager. Barcelona didn't even look threatening up until the point they scored. All those saying they should go out and attack plays to barcelonas strengths which would be a naive thing to do considering they held a solid aggregate lead.

Anyway it's a taste of their own medicine in all honesty...we were robbed last season against them and this time bearing in mind the harsh decision for the handball, they were too.

Sorry I'll agree to disagree. Parking the bus isn't a good thing for football. Horrible to watch, and funny that Jose gets praise for it but other teams and managers get stick for it.

Defending is part of the game, just not when it's the only thing to your game.

I think Arsenal like DM said, showed that you can beat or at least score against Barca playing good football.

You dont get plaudits for playing good football and then getting beat. A year or twos time no one will look back and say

"wow, Barcelona played some great football (and cheated really well too) its a real pity they didnt win the championship"

Instead people will completely forget Barca and remember the team who win the tournament which I imagine will be Inter Milan though it will be a close and very good final.

For all the great football Arsenal played this season Man Utd or Chelsea will be remembered as winning the title.

Great football is a great thing to play as long as you can combine it with winning. Otherwise you are just another loser no matter how well you played and Barcelona are just another bunch of cheating losers.

Well done to Mourinho. Great tactical display and a well disciplined performance by his team. People need to wise up and realise that there are other aspects to football than attacking, the best coaches in the world and in history have shown this. Mourinho, Fergie, Capello, Clough, Michels, Ramsey, Hiddink and Paisley (plus many more) all shown more than just streaming forward at the drop of a hat and in my opinion its why managers like Wenger*, Guardialo and Rjikaard will go down as good managers rather than great as they are one dimensional.

* Wenger did have another side to his tactical game but for some reason he has stubbornly refused to employ this any more, his and Arsenals loss though.

I love how Barcelona have become cheats :D

Doesn't matter that Inter dived just as much.

Agreed they were both as bad as each other tbh. However, the comments about 'anti-football' are just plain ridiculous. Like above the winners are remembered not those who lost valiantly playing good attacking football.

People saying all mourinho does is park the bus really just don't get it. Soaking up pressure and counter-attacking is not "parking the bus" like stoke do - it is intelligent play. Mourinho is one of the best tactical managers in the world, his team have a detailed gameplan, stick to it, and they are invariably successful.

People saying messi was quiet this game are right, he was quiet because inter completely neutralised him by doubling up when he got the ball. They didn't need to double up on ibrahimovic - he was just awful! :p

Inter have got to be favourites for the final now, can't see munich beating them at all.

p.s. barca didn't become cheats - they already were cheats.

I must admit I am not getting this anti football thing and parking the bus about Inter. Since when does being able to defend better than the other team is attacking become anti football ?

Surely anyone would realise that the onus was on Barca to attack to reduce the 2 goal defecit. Then when you consider that Barca are probably the best team on the planet of pass, move, create space then Inter's game plan was pretty simple, deny them the space.

Yes it's not pretty at times but Mourhinio and Inter were on the brink of a European final and there only responsibility is to ensure that they protected their 2 goal advantage.

Indeed, some people on here really need to stop tonguing Barca quite so hard.
