English & European Football [24th - 29th Apr 2010] **spoilers**

no chance, over two legs Inter played a brilliant tactical game and in the first leg in particular deserved a victory. they showed how to play Barca and didn't bend over for them how most teams seem to (Us in the final last year included). Barca have been getting on my **** this season, beginning to believe that they are entitled to things and as I said before really believing their own hype. Congratulations Inter.!

Yet without several poor decisions they'd have lost the tie quite comfortably.

Anyway, the 'victory for football' bit surprised me. Inter set up in both legs to just spoil the game.
so someone was playing Pique onside? I didn't catch all of the replays but he looked off to me.

Just showed it to be onside.

"No one is beating Barca"

Now we at last have an end to the media circle jerk of Barcelona, a good solid well drilled side has beaten them, even though they had the help of a decidedly dodgy referee.

Nice one Maureen.

who played him on? and you're being purely hypothetical. Had Motta stayed on and Barca's goal stood Inter would have taken it up the other end and scored 4 in injury time. Prove me wrong.

I dont see that argument, its the only way to beat them.
Not a lot of teams can go toe to toe with Barcelona in a one touch high tempo game and win, so why try?
They might as well not bother turning up.

I agree with David pleat for once. Bad day for football, in the sense Barca didn't play well, 500 odd passes V 60 odd, and that football didn't win tonight. Inter just defended with no intention of doing anything else.

Football lost, I really don't understand why people are pleased that almost anti football won, we all like good attacking football?

Hmm. It's tactical genius when Inter pull it off...it's called "parking the bus and time wasting at every opportunity" in every other part of the world. ;)

Parking the bus is still a valid tactic, since when defending well as a team is a bad discipline?

Playing pretty football against Barcelona really did Arsenal a lot of good, didn't it?

As it did for Man Utd last May...

Inter Milan were spot on with their tactics against a team they knew was better than them. They'll play differently against Munich.

You can't say that on here evidently. Mourinho can do no wrong and its definitely not anti-football.

Inter had the bus parked from 5 minutes in. Having a player sent off changed nothing.

I agree that's the only way to beat them and everybody knew this was the way JM would set up against them.

I was surprised with the 'victory for football' comment though, doesn't really make sense after the way Inter played.

why? defending is a perfectly valid part of football.

Yes it is. Not when you *just* defend for two legs it's not a valid way of football. It's horrible to watch and it's a sad day for football when anti football wins.

Inter parked the bus for two legs, got lucky decisions and it's a great "tactcal" display and Jose is a tactical god? Sorry but teams do it every week against and get stick for it, but it's okay when the special one does it.

Don't be silly, of course the sending off changed things. Initially they were playing a counter-attacking game with Milito trying to hold up the ball. After the sending off they pretty much abandoned that and only then, as you say, 'parked the bus'.
