English & European Football [24th - 29th Apr 2010] **spoilers**

there's always 4th to play for guys. Don't stop believing!

Working hard to get my fill
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin' anything to roll the dice just one more time

Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on

Fulham will have Baird back for the final. Good NI contingent at Fulham - Noel Baird and Aaron Hughes. Just a shame that David Healy didn't fit.

Didn't realise until after the goal that away goals counted in extra time! Is a crap ruling and it should become a level playing field if teams can't be seperated after 180 mins imo. Anyways, sums up our season I suppose. I'll just have to take consolation that I'm off in the morning to get hammered on a stag weekend. Roll on next season.

I agree wholeheartedly. It is totally unfair.

(I am a Utd fan so I am not just saying that so Liverpool would have had a better chance of winning)

Well done to Fulham, great result. I really hope they do win it.

Errr, lol Liverpool? Or should I say bye Benitez. :D

How on earth did Mascherano leave the field without a yellow card? I mean seriously, how the hell, he did enough fouls to get 2-3 yellows from persistant fouling a couple fouls that were close to a yellow all on their own, and start to finish he mouthed off constantly. How does he rarely end up sent off, its mind boggling the amount of crap he got away with.

Athletico really do suck away from home in general, one of those teams where away from home they just forget how to play football in general, all the midfielders/strikers seem to play like lone strikers, get the ball run a bit and ignore everyone else.

Well done to Fulham, meh to Athletico, and big thumbs down for the useless Liverpool. Was funny Benny was utterly hopeless till his goal then he was the best player on the pitch till he went off.

Just read that Burnley could qualify for the Europa League if Fulham were to win the competition, via the fair play league. Haha.

So pleased for Fulham! I really hope they can win it, well done Roy Hodgson.
I am also slightly pleased that my scouse-supporting friends will no longer be able to have spurious claims to having had a successful season now they've been knocked out, though I always root for English teams in Europe.

Well as I say, for me I cheer all english teams in europe, but I do understand that the majority of english football "fans" arent like that.

I like good football, more often than not I don't like watching Liverpool as Benitez has them playing incredibly dull football, though they put in a good showing now and then.

I see no English team as better than any team from any other country, I support Arsenal and like to keep an eye on Brentford, beyond that my loyalty is to good football.

I actually think a Pool vs Fulham game would be dull, I see it twice a season, a decent team that plays fair and decent football vs a team we don't often see and a matching we've not seen before offers FAR more interest to me in terms of football.

The only possible downside is if Athletico play incredibly badly as they are such an inconsistant side, sometimes playing nice fluid football and sometimes, usually away, unable to string to passes together.

Out of the teams to play yesterday I think we have the best possible final we could have got, Fulham have shown in the past 4 games in the quarters/semi that they aren't ever out of a game and can turn it around. I also think no manager in the world deserves it more than Hodgeson, one of the best managers in the world, one of the nicest, one of the fairest on one of the smaller budgets has a superb team. Plus, theres few funnier in an interview than Woy, though I do love to see Ranieri interviewed.

Does Mascherano have a documented case of tourettes or something, I can't think of another reason he gets away with so much mouthing off to a ref literally every single game, though that doesn't really explain his ability to foul anyone all game long with no punishment.

THinking about that, would Howard at Everton get a little leeway in the mouthing off at ref's situation considering he actually does have tourette's?

Conversely I actually think that an english team v an english team in the final would inherently carry more interest than , what I suspect will be another poor Athletico performance against Fulham.

In terms of footballing atmosphere I think Hamburg reaching the final , in their home stadium before their home crowd, would probably have made for a more pulsating final than Fulham. However as I cheer my home nations in europe, regardless of which team it is, I am happy to see Fulham get through instead of Hamburg.

Mind you Tourettes comes in many forms, the language one being just one , actually less common, form. I dont think Howard has the tourettes that does that, I thought his was more tick based.

Well done Fulham, was hoping for a Fulham Atleti final, should be awesome. Hope Fulhams win though as they've been immense in Europe

Bizarre that both Europa games were 100 times better than the Inter vs Barca one :(
