English League Football ** spoilers ** [27th - 29th August 2010]

Horrible performance from us. At home against WBA and we sat back and tried to play on the break.

Rafa took a lot of stick for 'playing 2 holding midfielders' but I can't recall a time were our CM's have sat so deep as they did today. Hopefully Meireles won't be so ristricted when he's in the side.

The ref was nearly as embarrassing as our performance too. On top of the red which was harsh and the clear handball, he made countless mistakes throughout the game.

Totally agree :(

Had the albion game on the radio. A bit gutted we didn't get a point off that ... thought we might be able to hang on. People watching it, was it a straight red card?

Gutsy from villa today.

Lack and devoid of just about everything else, but sometimes it's good to see a game like that. Credit to them, that kid albrighton threw himself at absoloutely everything, brad fridiel at 40 with reflexes of a guy half his age, and the most underated guy on the pitch james collins.

Worth every bit of the 1-0.

The red card was harsh but like the Cole red vs Arsenal, the ref can hide behind the 'letter of the law' when justifying it.

There didn't appear any intent from Morrison; he went in for the ball, Torres nicked it away and Morrison's caught him on the shin with his follow through. It was an unfortunate foul more than anything.

Luke Young was OUTSTANDING today. Finish of a striker, launched himself at everything, made timely tackles and made numerous superb blocks. 10/10 for that lad. However, I used the same phrase earleir when describing us. Totally devoid of any ideas whatsoever. Carew was poor today, very poor. However, I said we'd probably start winning games without journeymen like Heskey, Beye and Cuellar, players which don't contribute anything to the team. This happened today, and we won. Cuellar you could argue about, as he's a good CB but an utterly toss RB.

Have to give Everton credit, they tore us to pieces but just couldn't score. Very creative they were, and that kid Coleman was brilliant.

Well City had a great first half and tevez should/would have put that away but it didnt...then we had a battering hard workin Sunderland in the 2nd half and we just didnt get going again...first loss of the season/1st goal conceded,A draw would have been good but like many times before Richards makes the wrong choice and he gets a penalty which Bent 9/10 will score....
And Robbo/Stewart it isnt such a big deal is it? similar to when Wigan beat Chelsea 3-1? Burnley beat utd...so i think you should all calm down that we lost one game...especially to a team who lost 3 games at home last season

Thought a red was a bit harsh myself but overall the ref was useless

its hard to get the clarity on the local radio. What with the accent and the bias. It got annoying when the commentator kept moaning about players trying to play their way out of trouble, instead of just kicking it. I know we're away to Liverpool, but lets have a proper go, not kick and run nonsense.

Haha! Of course good teams will lose to worse teams some of the time, but when you have just spent 200M, its a little different ;)

Expect a ribbing and stop with the butthurt attitude.

You don't mind dishing it out so you should learn to be able to take it.

Barcelona tearing Racing a new one already. Messi scored after 2 mins, sublime chip over the keeper as he tends to do 1v1. 0-3 currently.

to be honest I don't really see how a mediocre mid table team being beaten by sunderland is the same as United or Chelsea losing to teams struggling against relegation.

Was at the Sunderland v Man City game (as a Sunderland fan) and was very pleased with our teams performance.

We rode the storm for the first 30 mins of the first half and defended well.

Second half we came out looking very attacking minded... and seemed to play some very good football.. shutting out/down City for majority of the second half.

Will be interesting to see what is said on MOTD 2night.. but the lads made me proud to be a fan after that performance.
