English League Football ** spoilers ** [2nd - 3rd October 2010]

Well it's fairly simple really, the Glazers have saddled the club with so much debt that United couldn't afford to spend a large portion of the £80 million made from Ronaldo on someone who was even slightly comparable, and that lack of money might have had something to do with us not signing Tevez permanently.

Yes, Fergie ought to get some blame for his poor tactical decisions as of late but it's not his fault that we haven't bought a world class replacement for Ronaldo, he's trying to do the best he can with the limited funds on offer.

And there's no argument that our current team isn't as good as it was two or three years ago.

It's looks like second season syndrome for birmingham we really need a goalscorer, other then that the rest of the squad is decent, pretty gutted we lost our home record today

I thought the party line has always been Sir Alex was expecting Rooney to fill Ronaldos shoes, and he had a sizable chunk of loan money available to him (50 or 60mil?) should he wish to bring in new players?

If anyone wants to see just how bad a referee can be, tune into the West Ham v Fulham match. Complete ******. The atmosphere at Upton Park was incredible today.

There's only one Stevie Wonder.

Without wanting to sound too conspiratorial, I think that's just what Fergie and co want us to believe. As he said, maybe he didn't want to overspend on a player at a time when the transfer market was hugely inflated, but as a United fan I wouldn't have cared had he brought in a good replacement for Ronaldo even if it did cost twice as much as it ought to have. I'm sure Fergie is well aware that while teams like Real Madrid and Man City are around, the transfer market prices are here to stay. I suspect he is using that as an excuse because, in reality, most of that £80 million was never available to spend on replacements.

Besides, Rooney is not, and never will be, a suitable replacement for Ronaldo. While he is a fantastic player, he does not play in the same way or in the same position.

He was bad for both teams, he gave a yellow to one of ours just because he gave a harsh yellow to West Ham. Was a definite penalty too for E Johnson I think.

Who would you have signed to replace Ronaldo then? We spent the best part of 20m on Valencia so it's not like Fergie hasn't had money to spend. Add up how much that team out there cost today and then tell me the Glazers are the problem.

Adding up how much today's team cost is irrelevant because the vast majority of them were at the club prior to Ronaldo leaving, and many were there prior to the Glazers. My argument is that we have not adequately spent the money we made from Ronaldo's sale, and as a byproduct of this our team is worse than it was a few years ago.

Granted, it would be very difficult to think of a suitable replacement for Ronaldo, but United haven't even spent a large portion of the £80 million on strengthening several positions. I would argue that the team is currently in a 'transition period', as Fergie himself said in 2005.

None of these explain why Fergie feels the need to make drastic changes every single match, or why we have been completely outplayed by Sunderland.

What a load of horlicks that was. Yet again needless changes, Berbatov shows us what he's capable of this season and Ferguson leaves him on the bench for a must win game to keep the pressure on Chelsea who will go 5 points clear tomorrow if they beat Arsenal. Man City and Arsenal can both overtake us tomorrow if they win their games.

John O'Shea needs to be put down, Anderson is bad and shows absolutely no sign of ever showing us his potential. Owen and Macheda starting up front with Berbatov in his reign of form on the bench, what a joke. O'Shea playing at left back, also a joke. Yet another away draw against a team we should be putting to the sword.

For a laugh, next week, I challenge everyone in SA to name the Man Utd starting eleven against West Brom and we'll see how many people get it right. :p

Giggs is hurting utd, he's barely putting in 2/3 games a season that makes him worthwhile at all, Park, Fletcher, carrick, anderson are just as useless, but they aren't sucking down 100k+ a week and large bonus's, when Scholes/Giggs retire you'll replace them with good players, as most clubs are finally talking about its NOT transfers that kills clubs, its short term spending of short term cash leading to long term losses as the clubs can't cover wages introduced with the spare cash they spend on new players. Almost every club has been hurt by that.

utd need to prune the rubbish from the team, Fergie seems to be suffering the same way Wenger is, inability to ditch the rubbish, too long with the youngsters and doesn't want to ditch them. O'shea, Carrick, park, Anderson are sucking wages that other potentials or actually good players would be getting. Macheda really hasn't shown much yet, Owen is supposedly on a pay as he plays type contract so probably isn't getting paid a whole load, massive cash income from outside sources and just wanting to play probably make Owen fairly cheap to keep around, it was the midfield who created nothing for those upfront today, not particularly the strikers who blew.

Fergie though is dealing with some tough games, isn't it 3 away games in a row, one in form striker, played his inform winger(as inform as they get anyway) in Nani, played Scholes, Rio, Vidic, its unfortunately just about as strong a squad as Utd can put out, Evra and Berbatov got a rest, Rooney was dropped because he's ruddy awful, Valencia is out, if Berbatov plays today, and the next game, when do you rest him exactly? Considering he's the only form player you have, some level of protection makes sense, hasn't he played two tough and tiring away games in a row, one including travel to Spain?

Agreed, we got let off for a dead cert of a handball aswell.

Oh, did I mention he pulled play black for a free kick when Mark Noble could have played advantage inches outside the box?

Bad day for what is normally a good ref.

Similar thing happened to us too. Ah well.

we get outplayed because we have too many average players in the team./ oshea, fletcher etc

this isnt the good old days when you could rock up with half of your first team and get a great result no matter what.

when we win these days it is usually down to a fluke or the sheer talent of a single player, this year it happens to have been berbatov carrying us for a while and hernandez moment in the champs league. last season it was rooney and the seasons before that it was ronaldo.

nani isnt real quality. yes he is fast skillful but very inconsistent. mix that up with some grade b players like oshea and you have issues playing good football.
