Some people, often those who claim to be in favour of freedom of speech and expression, tend to get all emotional when a thread doesn't promote multicultural and PC loveliness.
At such times they'll go to any lengths including some rather nasty personal attacks to shut up those posters who free speech is not acceptable to them.
Just check out the last few pages of the muslim handshake thread to see a group of rabid zealots ganging up on me with insult after insult.
Didn't seem to bother Rich then though....

It's the whole thread, if you're too wrapped up in your blanket of righteousness to see it that isn't my problem.

Ironically in fact, that is the entire problem, there's a whole bunch of posters too interested in baiting each other and ruining threads rather than actually discussing issues genuinely. It's a real shame to be honest.

Just because I haven't mentioned it previously, doesn't mean I'm not getting seriously annoyed with it, it just seemed this thread seems particularly pathetic and so warranted my comment.

Im not saying your the trouble causer, but when these threads appear, Id bet my bottom dollar (or pound!) that you have inserted your opinion which has then gone on to post upon post of bitching and such.

It started from a tendency for people to debate issues, then grew into THIS when things got personal.

Possibly, but part of the reason for that is I do not choose opinions with the comfort of others in mind, I merely say what I think without sugar

Reviewing the thread I see the following sequence of events:

CBS posted a BBC article for discussion.
Visage immediately jumped on it and attempted to trash the thread.
Royalty followed suit.
I requested that the thread not be trashed.
Shackley then attacked me asking why I was "obsessed with RTMing posts"
Vonhelmet posted at me "shutup dumbass"

And then it went downhill from there although one or two posters seemed intent on trying to find something to be offended about.

Visage joined the thread with the intention of trashing it. It looks as though he got his wish.

It's not a case of who provokes something that gets a topic to page 3 or beyond, it is usually because people won't let it go or feel the need to persue it to no forseeable beneficial end.

So do something about it. Complain at the instigators and thread trashers and snide posters when you see them. I have NEVER sen you criticise the behaviour of visage. Why not? Because you share his political views you'll ignore his behaviour?
If you are getting sick of these issues then stop being so bloody one sided about it.

I think you'll find my posts either answered a direct question or were about the speech.
Can't say the same for vonhelmet, royalty, spawn, visage etc.....
The thread was even back on track until RichL decided to talk about vomit inducing.
Got those examples ready yet RichL so we can see what it is that you are referring to? I want to see who was masterbating whose ego........

Unbelievable. You simply cannot accept any criticism or responsibility that you may be playing a part in the demise of so many threads, can you? Has your ego truly grown so impervious that you believe yourself completely innocent? Instead you resort to accusing me of 'bias' for not raising it in other thread..so, so unfortunately typical.

Meh, it's a decision for the mods as always, unfortunately I have little faith that they will take action, but never mind.

I don't think that any amount of trying to pretend that you didn't mean the other four-letter word beginning with a 'c' is going to help you.

If I got a sus for that (it is arguably against the rules) I would serve it without quibble.

This thread was started in good faith, and I only got the MoH tag for lengthy contributions to SC. I don't like the bickering that happens in these threads and i have already asked for it to be closed via RTM but sometimes this happens. Sometimes we are civil like a teddy bears picnic, but unfortunately not at the moment.
