I know there are other launchers but it seems these are the biggest two...

I'm firmly in the Steam camp, but now getting on for almost 20 years after I signed up following the purchase of HL2, my son recently uttered the words, "Steam is rubbish. Epic has better games." He's 11 and seemingly easily influenced (Prime, Beats, Mr. Beast etc). It got me thinking though most of us started our Steam journey with HL2 and now Valve no longer makes (many) games are they going to start missing the youngsters whose first PC experience is likely to be something like Epic exclusive Fortnight?

Daughter is 13, has both but only Steam is ever loaded. It simply has a better selection of indie games and that's the kind she loves playing.

It may just be a boy/girl thing though, she's got zero interest in Fortnite!

Nephew is absolute peak zoomer, uses Epic mainly for Fortnite whilst drinking Prime etc. Steam is as secondary to him as Epic is to me (but even then not really).

I actually have no idea at all what the Prime drink is (or why theres such a craze about it), I'm guessing its like a Redbull sort of drink (which also had some sort of craze about it when it first came on the market as I recall)....goodness knows why young folks need energy, I always had quite enough energy as it was as a kid. Maybe kids are fatter these days and need the extra power to move their bulk or something :)

Just a drink that youtubers aimed at zoomers promote so they fall for it hook line and sinker. Never seen people fighting over drinks like happened with that brand lol, madness.

Taking the conversation off on a tangent here but its blooming frustrating watching your young ones take in the marketing and starting to ignore your advice, especially when your quite knowledgeable with tech

Recently he was in need of a new phone as his Pixel 3a was on its last legs. He was adamant he wanted an iPhone or Samsung, nothing else. I'd recommend getting something similar to my Poco F3 which is a fantastic bang-for-buck phone. Nope, he would prefer a cheaper slower Samsung, simply because it says Samsung on it. Really frustrating

Back on topic... Rust is on his Christmas list so thats a bit more Steam exposure but I do think Valve are being a little short sighted in slowing/stopping game development.

I mean...have you tried it by any chance? Does it actually at least taste nice?

I think some are Red-bull esq (the ones in cans) and some are more like a Lucozade sport.

Verdict from the son is orange and lemon & lime are ok, the rest are rank.

ahh the Hell of HL downloading on dialup and being forced to use steam to connect to counterstrike

steam is ok can take it order leave use none of the community stuff including friends lists ect

epic is ok and no better or worse even Origin was ok not tried the new version

Built my son a PC last week and and he's wanting to play L4D2, he's 11 on the 27th and the game is older than him. It's only because he's seen me playing it.

He mainly plays Fortnite and likes his Prime, though he's not aloud the energy drink version.

I bought my son L4D2 when it was 85p in the recent sale. Mainly so we had something we could play together. He's given it a whirl and declared it as 'ok' We've only had a couple of goes and I had to leave him to be eaten in the stadium on our last go

I feel that the Gamespy Arcade generation are the only ones that actually appreciate Steam, whilst the zoomer gen ask "wtf is Gamespy???".

Tsk.
