Epic Vs Steam younger generation

I just went through a campaign with him, a nice short blast of 45-60 mins.

Tbf I want to rage quit when i'm on Fortnight not knowing what the heck is happening.

dammmmnnn 3 million players playing fortnite right now? Maybe I should take a look at the game, or is it too late? I'm itching for a giant community game but I don't really want to play csgo or dota and I hate blizzard. Ultimately I just wish there was a good battlefield game, I could deffo get lost in that right now.

Is that 3 million in Fornite or 3 million in that new Lego Fornite crafting/survival game. I know the lego fortnite has exploded in size lately.

I just went here: https://fortnite.gg/player-count it says 4.2 million right now! I'm just watching a fortnite beginners video and it doesn't seem very appealing, maybe I'll grow to like it if I play it.

I'm at a kids birthday party at Arcade Club in Leeds (its fab - check it out). The kids have all levitated to the top floor to play Fortnite :(

To me the whole thing is as downright bizarre as if you'd said, "I'm a Sainsbury's guy, and always will be. I will never, ever, ever shop from Tesco, Waitrose, Morrisons or any of those other pretenders. If it's not available in Sainsburys I just won't buy it. I hate those other shops!"

And then grinds their teeth and gets agitated when Morrisons has a really good promotion on something they want?

It's just such a self-imposed "problem" you have to laugh, really.

I've never understood how you can be in a camp with regards to a platform you use for downloading games, surely you should just use the one that currently has the games you want to play?

Never did create a Epic launcher account and can't see myself doing so. Steam all the way. Interesting to see younger folk thinking epic is better.

Yep I just prefer the platform, to the point I don't give two ***** how much cheaper epic is. It's bad enough having to install Ubisoft and EA and Rockstar just for their games. I delete the other launchers whenever I've finished a game on them.

Re basing, do you lot do it after you painted the mini or before? I kinda want to do it before but not sure how well the model will then stick to the surface without faffing around with pinning or something.

I prefer to buy stuff on Steam cos to me it seems more obvious to see what DLC is available, and I also get the feeling that DLC comes up on sale more often than on Epic, though this impression might be because I've never bought anything on Epic and don't usually go looking for "store" pages on there to look for discounted DLC for the free games I have acquired. But from the little looking round I have done it doesn't look as obvious what DLC is what, hence the above. Not particularly adverse to building a paid Epic library, the I just can't be doing with the interface.

Edit: Off the back of this I've just loaded up Epic launcher to see what its like to browse dlc for a random game, Surviving Mars which I got free years ago. And yeah, the interface to browse DLC is absolutely ****ing awful. Takes up FAR too much screen space, just a massive grid of dlc icons, no simple list like steam which I can however over and get a handy description popup. Also, crucially, no obvious user reviews of each dlc, so can't easily filer out rubbish DLC. It is just a chore to use. Utter **** compared to Steam.

The Epic launcher is still far behind Steam and doesn't provide the same features at all.

Steam input - easily one of the best things Valve has done for PC gaming.

Remote play - out of the box streaming from anywhere in the world! While there are other solutions for this which are arguably better in some ways they are not as simple to use and have their own drawbacks. It allows you to remote play with friends, and I've recently found that I can stream games from my PC while locked using remote play, with no need to enter my password using a controller.

Linux support - Steam supports multi platform distribution anyway, so if you purchase a game with Windows, Mac, and Linux distributions, you get them all and can play on any of your devices without having to repurchase. On top of that Steam will allow you to run any Windows game using Proton without any advanced configuration required.

On top of this you can run any third party application from Steam with all of the features above! So you're not even locked to their store. Although since I use Steam for these features I'll be far more likely to purchase a game on Steam than elsewhere.

As far as I can tell Epic have one draw and that is a handful of exclusives (Fortnight, Rocket League, and a few time limited). People will always play other games though and if they're not bothered about anything but price then I can see them shopping both stores and eventually also preferring Steam.

Steam has basically become like Windows. They've had so many years now to work on the Steam software that no one else can catch up anymore. Steam will just continue with no competition indefinitely just like Windows has no real competition because it's too difficult and takes too long to make an actual competitor with the same features.

Epic store will never be able to do what Steam can, because Steam had a 15 year head start on Epic store

Zoomer nephew did start PC gaming on EGS (Fortnite) but never actually bought anything on the platform and now buys games on Steam

Epic haven't even tried and I'd wager they have the know-how and resources. They just don't care. Valve understands they need more than just a store to stay competitive.

It took Valve years to get their interface to where it is, it was primitive in the early stages. Perhaps they don't care now or its not a priority, but give them time. Competition is good for the consumer, monopolies are good for the companies.

It's not really an issue though is it because you have options to buy steam keys from plenty of other sources. Otherwise yes I'd agree.
