Hey all just started EP2 performance is superb. Around 80fps Average 1680x1050 16xAA/AF. It seems FPS can drop in some instances depending on the situation when I turn the flash light on FPS can drop to mid 30's  Anyone else noticed this?. 8800GTX BTW. Also the game does not seem to be using dual core as of yet :(

Yeah, no multi core support as of yet, leaves me with three cores sitting on their butts:( performance is as smooth as silk on my 2900xt and never ever feels sluggish, even when in massive battles, this is with X4AA-16AF. I think the flash light has a hit on performance in all the HL2 games, i never really notice any dip in fps with it on " though i dont use fraps " but then again your using 16XAA, jeez these GTX guys love their AA, 4X not good enough for yah.:p

Nah I have never had a hit with the flashlight tbh  also changing AA levels hardly affects performance or change it. Perhaps when the dual core patch comes it will solve it?

Source engine is just as dependant on CPU as GPU isnt it?.

Until they release a multi core version, fps will suffer in certain situations i guess.

I believe so hence why I think the dual core patch will help. Seems my CPU can't cope with all the effects dispite being clocked at 3.6Ghz C2D. Hurry up with the dual core patch Valve!

I reckon when this multi core patch hits we will see some impressive increase in frame rates as a number of valve employees have said and its about time too.

my x1800xt @ 1680*1050 drops to mid 30's fps in tf2 mostly 60+ so with dc pacth I might get a few more hey? maybe I can hold off buying a new vga card then:)

How big is the orange box? My anal Uni only allow 500Mb a day :(

Could i install steam on my external hard drive and take it to the library and do it that way?

Flashlight now casts dynamic shadows, could be why you notice a dip with it only in ep 2.

Game looks pretty nice I must say.

I think the multithreading patch is already in. I'm sure there's an official post on the forums stating this.

When I first fired it up, I thought how nice it looked, and how well it ran, with rig in sig, until....

Using flashlight when close up to objects, or shining it in Alex's face, close up, at the beginning, caused some slowdown, which I've never encountered on a HL2 game before. The big explosion at the beginning caused some slowdown too.

However, after the opening scenes, I've been playing it, smooth as silk, flashlight or not, full details, no worries, at 1680x1050.

Maybe I'll get more slowdown during outside sections later, if I need the flashlight too, but as I said, so far, was just the initial scenes that had slowdown.

So far, so good.
I am a fan of the Half Life 2 games :)
