Yes Andy, Goal of the Season with 2 months missing, c'mon lad, what is with the attitude!
Ridiculous to call one hit and hope and not the other. They were both speculative attempts, both could have gone anywhere and both ended up going in exactly as intended.
I'd be far more confident of replicating Crouch's effort. I've never even thought to try a shot like Cisse's, outside of the foot, swinging from the near post to the far post and over the keeper, it's about as unorthodox as you can get. Never seen a pro try anything like that either.

I'm 99% sure that in the interview he gave after the game Cisse said that it was hit and hope.
I believe he did, well something to the effect of I was so tired I couldn't be bothered doing anything but shoot. That's not really in the context that hit and hope is being spoken about in this thread though is it. All speculative attempts such as that are in essence hit and hope since percentage wise there's a very low chance it will come off compared to a more simple chance. If you call a shot hit and hope in a derogatory manner, what you're saying is the guy hit the ball, and whatever happens after that is pure luck. I don't believe that's the case with the Cisse goal at all, it looks very clear to me that he happened to pull it off exactly as he was attempting.
Look at Van Persies goal, I've not seen a single person question whether he meant it. Why? Because we know for a fact he has the ability to do exactly that, we've seen him do it before. Had a different player scored the same goal I think he'd be going through the exact same hit and hope accusations that Cisse is.
The fact he basicaly tried it only because he was completely gassed doesn't change the goal for me, infact it's only in such conditions that you would even attempt something so outrageous.
Cisse was a hit and hope, he just lashed at it, dont forget it was the last few mins of the game, so Newcastle kept it in the corner and it bounced to him so he just hit it as hard as he could (to waste time) he did put a bit of side on it, it could have GONE anywhere, he didnt mean it, hence "hit and hope" where Crouch the game had over 30mins left and he had little options and it sat up for him so he had a pop.

I do like Crouch's goal and until Cisse scored that I expected Crouch's effort to be the goal of the season.
Cheets, I think your mind was made up that it was a jammy goal as soon as you saw it, which is fine, as is preferring the Crouch goal. But the old you're a mug if you don't agree with me argument doesn't work any better here than it does any other time

Didn't Cisse admit that he was tired and just lashed at it? if he'd caught the ball cleanly then it wouldn't have had anywhere near as much swerve. Cisse is class but that goal was a freak one.
Crouch caught the ball sweetly as he intended so he wins it for me.
