I have this board since the start of september(ordered on 30th august got it on 6/7 september) but only just got around to putting my system together due to various reasons(first was I couldn't decide on the ram, then had to put it on old for 3 weeks from the 17th september due to personal reasons then for the past couple of weeks been lazy), after the struggle getting the ocuk h2flo fitted I got every thing(well almost everything, not fitted 2nd graphics card, 2nd set of ram, hard disk as installing os on ssd or the 3 roof fans).

connect the monitor, mouse/kb, turn it on and no post. the code 'thingy'(yes I know very technical, I can't be bothered to check the official name) on the mb said 45and thats to do with the ram(I had 2x 4gb corsair pc3-12800 1600mhz c8 vengence in slot 1&3). I took the ram form slot 3(had to take out the graphics card to do it) then turned it on and go code 45(gave 98 but thats to do with no boot drive as I've yet to go into the bios to change boot order to optical and install windows), I then tried the single stick of ram in the other 3 slots(2, 3 and 4) and got the code when the ram was in 3 or 4(so no dual channel for me as can't do 1&3 or 2&4).

on that not when I inserted the ram in slot 3&4 it didn't sit flush while it did in slot 1&2, I even tried giving it a bit more pressure to make sure but nothing.

I have 2 sets of the 8gb kit 1 from the rainforest(ver5.51 which is ment to be the overclockable one) and 1 from here from w/c 19th this 'week only' offer at ~£50(ver2.21 which is ment to be the one that doesn't overclock well). I've tried the rainforest set, will try the 1 from here but I don't fancy my chances.

I should have tested it first with the stock cooler, now I'll have to clean the cpu and h2flo and apply tim myself(got some ac mx-2) if I'm able to get this board rmaed and come to fit it on the new board.

I hope I don't have issues rmaing it as I've had it for almost 2 months.

p.s. will I get any replies in this thread? my last 1 took ages before stulid replied but he wasn't able to help and got no replies from the people who would have been able to help, it was to do with the issues fitting the h2flo so people who have it or the corsair h60 would have been helpful.

thanks :)

yes will look in the socket as reading in a thread over on the tweak town forums that bent pins effect the ram. hope none are bent or ocuk will more than likely reject the rma saying I bent the pins).

off to bed now, will try in the afternoon/evening.

edit: I decided to test the 2nd set of ram before bed, getting the same results.

well took out the cpu and looks like there are bent pins tho I'm not sure as I didn't check before I put the cpu in there last night(well a quick glance not a careful check). even then I put the cpu in the only way it can go and didn't need exesive forece to 'lock' the 'cage'.

looks like its £210 down the drain unless ocuk will exchange the board for me.

I've taken the cpu out and put the cover back in,

this is my first skt1155 board so I can't say if the pins are ment to be like that or they're bent.

skt775 also has the pins in the cpu socket on the motherboard right not on the cpu itself? I've not had any problems with bent pins on the 4 skt775 motherboards I've had.

oh and I was tempted to order the i2700k oem, but now I can't untill I sort this out and by then it'll be off the £252 offer. plus if I have to buy a new board I wouldn't be able to buy it :(

well I rung ocuk, the guy I spoke to said as its over 28days will have to go back to asrock. I initially asked for a replacement before the guy mentioned having to send to asrock, so I've asked for a refund(initially he said they can't but then checked and has put it through their system for refund). how long will it take to get the refund?

I mentioned the RAM slots, as I said i'm don't know about the pins so didn't mention it. I was thinking about going with the extreme4 gen3 but that's up to £180(was £160), the extreme7 is £240(i got it pre-order for £210).

gave had a rethink and going to phone back and see if they can change it to replace, will just have to wait a month plus to get it back.

I've taken a few pics but can't upload them as my net is playing up, the profile is set to 135k(over night the router disconnected then reconnected at 160k so that ment the profile took a plumit from 1750k), going to have to wait till it returns to normal.

as I said I'm going to call back and ask to change it back to replace, but as it'll be sent to asrock will they allow a replacement if any pin is bent(again not sure if it was before or after I put the cpu in)? should I mention the possibility?

but what about as asrocks end? They will be testing it, if they do say its.

oh and why is it I have problems with the good mbos? the asus maxiums formula s.e(x38) I bought back in 2007 and it died due to a watercooling leak from the swiftech h2o compact kit(bought from ocuk), I connected the northbridge block(the maximus had a built in waterblock on the northbridge) to the wc kit and used the clips that came with the motherboard which was the cause of the leak. worked ok for ahile then I started noticing problems with the sound so opened up the pc to try reseating the card and found the leak, it took the motherboard and soundcard but luckyly the 2900pro 1gb(also bought from ocuk) was fine(there was a white residue on it but seems the coolant(fesser one which is ment to be non-conducting) had dripped on it but not got to the pci-e slot.
the motherboard I bought from a compatitor so can't name them, I was sure they'd turn it down but they fully refunded me as they didn't have the maximus formula s.e in stock or any other x38 that I was interested in.

I bought the dfi lanparty lt x48 t2r which didn't have any issues as such but I didn't really enjoy using it too much, didn't get too much of a chance to use it(apart for a few months) as the pc caught a malware/virus then windows xp wouldn't reinstall(had problems installing windows in the first place, took several tries). the pc set gathering dust after that as I never got around to trying to reinstall windows on it, few months back finally put it out of its misery and dissassamble it. it was my first attempt at a custom watercooling build, wishing I'd never bothered with it as didn't like the case(cosmos s), motherboard(the dfi) and the cpu(q9450) was a pain in the backside to overclock past ~3.2ghz(3.2ghz was easy not needing much voltage etc adjustment, trying to get to 3.6ghz was like pulling teeth).

didn't get around to ringing ocuk back yesterday, going to do it today(it's past midnight) and see if they'll change it back to replace rather than refund.

as it's over 28days old it'll be sent back to asrock leaving without a mobo for at least a month so I'm thinking of getting the asus p8z68v-pro/gen3(£158 from a competitor as ocuk do the non-gen3), or the gigabyte z68xp-d3 trying to decide if I should pay the extra for the asus. need xfire(as bought 2x sapphire 6950 toxic) or would have gone z68ap-d3(or asus equivalent).

if asrock do replace/fix it(it's only a couple of pins which can be moved back with thin twizers or similar but I'm not taking the risk) and send it back I'll just sell it on here or may sell the cheaper mobo, after the hassle I had with it not sure(or maybe an idea to keep the cheap one as a backup).

nelly thanks for the suggestion but mine is the extreme7 which is £200+ and the cover on that is £40-£50, also it's already damaged so doubt amazon will cover it now.

ok so I've called back up and asked to get it changed to replacement, how long does it take for it to be changed in the rma history bit under 'your account' bit on the shop as its still showing as refund for the requested action(only called a few mins ago).

looking for a box to send it in but can't find a suitable, either too big or too small(golidlocks at least found things just right as well). well there is a box but it a tv box(not plain like it mentions in the email. plus I guess a box with the name of the rainforest on it isn't suitable either :)

well its been posted, they wanted £22 for special delivery. went for parcel force 48(get to ocuk Tuesday) which was £13, recorded was £9 but only £46 insurance

nice cs(NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) by the guy I spoke to on the phone just now, blatently called me a liar saying I dropped something in the socket or touched the pins.

so much for saving £30, already £5 over the price of the board currently on here(£210 for the board then £13 for the postage and £22 for testing and returning it to me).

the only reason I posted it to ocuk was because the guy(2 did infact) said they would forward it onto asrock, but the guy I spoke to now said they don't deal directly with asrock but with a supplier. would have connected asrock otherwise(would have saved myself £35 that way).

going by gee300's thread in genral hardware if I want this fixed I'm going to have pay another £15 to send it to asrock. so end up paying £260 for it.

oh I remembered another thing the guy said, he said that I admitted to bending the pin by saying I put the CPU into the socket. now correct me if I'm wrong but the saying 'no **** Sherlock' is appropriate in this situation, what else am I supposed to do with the i2500k? frame it and mount it on my wall?

unlikely but I'm hoping that a ocuk staff on the forum after reading how I was treated(being told I was lying) may at least get the testing/return cost reimbursed(£22)if not the £13 it cost me to send it to them.

it appears I misunderstood gee3000 post about the £15, asrock asked for £15 to cover the cost for returning the replacement. it'll cost me ~£20 to send it to them so ~£35, which means £70 to get this fixed £280 for a board that should be £220-£240 may as well bought the asus maximus iv extreme or gigabyte g1 sniper 2.

might just sell it on the mm if anyone will buy it for £150 delivered to recoup some of the cost and get the z68xp-ud3 and forget all the fancy bells and whistles, or maybe the asus p8z68-v pro/gen3 for a bit of fancy features but not as many as the asrock extreme7.

edit: it's back in my possesion, the dpd guy came ~1hr ago.

I finally decided to open it and have a close look at the bent pin(I thought there were 2 but seems only 1), its bent in completely the opposite direction to the other pins around it(the tip of it even seems to be under the pin behind it).

I was thinking about using a thin sewing pin and try to ben it back, but looking at it even if I can safely bend i back without damaging any more pins I'm afraid it'll snap off. am I being paranoid or should I not take the risk?

I don't see how droping something in the socket would cause the pin to get bent in such a manner, dropping something in it would have flattened the pin/bent it 'forward'. only way I see it is if I either used my finger nail or some other object to get under the pin 'tip' and bend it back(didn't see anything on the back of the cpu that could have done it either).

I took photos of the socket before I sent it off but they've not come out very well(fuzzy, dark etc), will take some more over the weekend but this time with my dslr(only a humble canon 300d).

well I finally got the photos of the socket but can't see the pin too well, chosen the best one but not sure if you can see how its bent all the way back to the pin behind it.

its been a couple of weeks since I got the board back from ocuk and not contacted asrock yet, been trying to decide what to do was thinking about trying to unbend it myself(only 1 pin) but as I said the way its 'bent' I'm afraid it'll snap off when I try to fix it.

Sales of goods act. There is no way unless you used a pointy object that you would have bent that pin yourself.

ok who do I contact and how?

I'll email asrock tonight/tommorow asking about getting this rma'ed, have waited long enough.

edit: just sent off the email, they usually take upto 48hrs to reply.

ok,

well as expected got the email back from asrock asking for the serial number and if I'm willing to cover the cost of postage to&from them(its the word for word same as what ge3000 had), is the serieal number only on the label on the box or somewhere on the mb as well(so I can compare and not run the risk of them rejecting it on wrong serial number grounds)?
