Was off at Cannes with the 40d this weekend on a company holiday; First night there i was taking some photos, got around 200 off and then i got a message saying "Error 99"

I've tried different lenses, reset to factory defaults, took both batteries out, poked around at all the moving parts, cleaned all the contacts. No difference, can't take a single picture without Error 99

Gutted, I think I'll have to send it back to Canon, but I've missed all the photos from this weekend, Only had it 3 months, 8000 actuations.

Sucks; just thought I'd share my pain

Which lens were you using? Did it have IS ?

Error 99 is the 'catch all' error, I had the same problem 3 years ago with a 20D and 100-400L IS. The IS unit needed replacing in the lens - the camera was fine.

It happened to me before when I was using my Canon 50mm f1.8 MKII, gave the electric contact on the lens and camera a quick wipe and job done. (It also happened to my Sigma 70-300mm DG Macro)

But as said above, it might be something else too.

Hope it's all fine~

I bought a refurb 350d from canon about 2 years ago, the main reason I bought it was to take pictures on a fieldtrip I was going on (university). Anyway I got out there, took 3 pictures and got the error 99. Tried changing lenses, cleaning, different battery and nothing worked.

I had to send it back under warranty, and had the camera back in a week. The job sheet showed they had pretty much replaced the whole internals of the camera, which was a bit of a result since I had then effectively paid half retail price for a new 350d (the casing was perfect anyway).
