The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk0\D.

The above was recorded within Windows Event Log, multiple times now that I can reproduce it.

I have:

1) Changed all cables on all HDD's (SATAII HDD's)
2) Updated Chipset and Raid Controller Drivers

Questions:

1)Which HDD is the above relating to?
2) How can I go about resolving this?

Other Information:

-Using GA-965P-DS3 Motherboard
-One HDD partitioned (XP/Vista - Using XP Mainly)
-Two RAID1 (Mirrored)
-Problem can be produced by copying data from the raid array to the system disk

Thanks for reading!

What's the Event ID?

I'd guess its 11 - if so follow the troubleshooting guide.

Thanks for the reply, but it appears as though the link is invalid. Would it be possible to post it again?

Thanks

EDIT:
Sorry, just read what you said properly. It is event 11. Do you know much of this?

Thanks for the help

I've updated the link in my original post - cut and paste error.

In almost all cases, these messages are posted because of hardware problems. The source may be the controller or (more probably) a device that is attached to the controller.

The rest of the article uses SCSI to show how to troubleshoot but it should be the same for all controllers.

Make a backup of your data, download the drive's diagnostic utility from the manufacturer's homepage and extensively test it. Any results you get that way may be very usefull for a warranty replacement. Note any errors you get and mention them on the manufacturer's homepage when you apply for warranty.

Thanks, I will try that. I have just installed some windows updates and had to format / re-install the OS, I couldent boot in. Odd because using F8 to see if there is a BSOD... none. And safe mode wouldent work either.

Luckily my data is on the raid array so it's not that bigger deal.

Thanks for the help. I will give what you mentioned a go.

I have just had got everything up and running after the re-install. This included getting all the latest versions for all of the hardware.

It would appear as though the disk problem has gone away (may have been a software issue after all). I will be keeping an eye though and may run those checks you advised me on earlier.

Thanks for your help during this though. It has been much appreciated

Ah, spoke to soon, here they come agin. OK, I will try what you were talking about and see what happens.

Western Digital have confirmed a fault with the drive. The CD would only 1 in 4 times boot. The other 3 it would produce an error. The windows tool produced a BSOD and all those event errors too.

Thanks guys, HDD is back to overclockers who have so far been great as usuall the whole thing. Having a problem with some speakers I brought through overclockers to, oddly at the same time :

but Overclockers have organised (and proceeded) with a collection of both the HDD and speakers.

Very efficient there Overclockers! One happy customer!
