I've read that, when using a standard internal SATA controller with an external eSATA device, you're limited to a cable length of one metre but this is extended to two metres if your controller has a proper eSATA connection on it as the signalling/voltage levels are slightly different.
Is this true and if so, how "hard" are these lengths? I want to connect an eSATA device but don't have a dedicated connection on my mobo and so would use a simple blanking-late extension from an internal header on the mobo. Am I limited to 1m or can I push this a bit?
