eSATA problem

Got a Seagate 500 GB drive sat in a brand new enclosure connected via eSATA cable and powered from a mains adapter. Everything is connected right.

I enabled the eSATA port in the BIOS but XP can't find any software for a PCI device (which I presume has something to do with eSATA). If I connect the drive via USB then XP picks it up straight away. I've tried getting the driver wizzard to search both my mobo CD and the supplied one but to no avail.

Any ideas?
 
Is the esata controller on the same controller as your other sata ports? It may need a different driver. Check your mobo manufacturers webby as well as the seagate webby.
 
tbh you would have been better off buying a £3 SATA --> eSATA convertor/pci bracket and used the main SATA controller as the eSATA one on most mobo's is normally weak in comparison.

Probably about an hour or so.

About the same time then as downloading a big driver from Asus's LAME servers :p Considering how big Asus are I am amazed at how crap and slow their servers are :mad:

There is no difference.

Any why grab old drivers from Asus, I got from vendors site, in my case thats Silicon Image but the other Asus's are Jmicron or something.

And I think the peep is joking above, 500GB is going to take long, long time to fully format from Fat32 to NTFC, I used the USB2 (as had not set up ESATA at time) and it went for 4+ hours could have been more I cant remember.

Of course thiers a difference:rolleyes: Are you telling me that two completely different SATA controllers made by different manafactures perform exactly the same :confused:

As I said the main SATA controller will perform better HENCE why the motherboard manafacture have used it as the main controller!
The main SATA controller is normally made by the chipset manafacture (ie Intel, VIA, nForce ..etc) where-as the eSATA is normally a third party manafacture such as microtripe!
Not only does the main SATA controller perform better it also is far more stable hence why you hear of many problems with regards to overclocking, conficts, performance issues ..etc when some motherboards have the eSATA controller enabled and in use.
 
Yeah it's not exactly perfect. It'll be coming out of the caddy and into my PC on friday anyway as I have a new case now.

No actually Im not, but Im saying it wont matter if onboard or pci card, he still needs drivers so whats to not understand ? (and who would buy add in card if they have onboard) so roll eyes back at ya. ;)
