Hi guys,

Can anyone tell me if i buy one of the external HDD caddies that support esata such as the Akasa do I also need to buy an esata pci card or can it plug into my standard sata on my mobo?

Cheers Ferret

You'd probably need a small sata-esata header. Had a quick google and none immediately shows up (tho apparently if you get an icy box they have one included).

Edit: Or the cable works though wouldn't be quite so robust (if the cable gets yanked with the header it pops out, if its trailing through case it has potential for damage.)

Not sure about the Akasa ones but the IcyBox/IcyDock ones come with a PCI bracket with an eSATA port and a fly lead to connect to an internal port. The supplied eSATA to eSATA cable then goes to the port on the bracket.
