seriously thinking about escaping the rat race got 2.5 years on the mortgage (should be 19 but we are overpaying)then we can think about something abit different , love corfu and was looking here http://www.cpacorfu.com/propertydetails.asp?propid=1998 this is just a random cheap place but you get the idea.(live in one bit ,rent the other) i earn well under 20k so its not if id be giving a career up or anything
its probebly just my wine talking and will never happen just wondering

where would you escape to?(or maybe your there already)

I have the same thoughts almost everyday, but when you have a long career in one skill area and spent thousands on courses and building qualifications... Should that be a showstopper?

Italy too, and Monaco.

Edit: Canada

The grass isn't as green on the other side of the fence as it looks.

The only real way of escaping the rat race is to realise that life is not what you do but rather what you do for others.

The rat race, e.g. the modern world, is probably the only reason that most people get out of bed.

If you are like me and don't really give a damn about materialism, don't define yourself by what you own but what you can do... the rat race is entirely meaningless and no matter how much you earn you will never be happy. However, most of the time, the rat race is enough to distract you on a day to day basic from the basic fact that life is essentially pointless, and extremely depressing if you are single.

Nothing will make this more apparent than becoming unemployed, unless you have the drive and ambition to take your life somewhere definitive.

You are my long lost brother, hold me!

Yeah iv ofen wished that, just got a house early this year, glad I did what with everything happening, but... I have thought often when driving to work what life would be like if I just packed up and got a crappy job but lived somewhere like Oz or NZ for a while and did what I like doing, climbing, mountain biking etc. Arh we can all dream though. Thing is, I prob would miss my material things like my pc, tv etc etc

Life is pointless if you're a not a materialistic pig? Is that supposed to be the motivation to get a job?

I don't know where to start on just how retarded that sounds. Just read that back to yourself and think about what you said there.

Go and live in the country side or in the Lakes, moving abroad you lose that British feeling, the weather goes the food goes and the banter.

Like LordSplodge said the grass is not always greener, Italy is a facist and racist country.

And the US of A is Britain with more land hotter weather and guns for everybody.

New Zealand or Ireland (Republic).
Personally cant see myself living in the UK once i have a decent amount of qualifications and as a 17 year old dont have a huge amount of strings attached at the moment.
