I'm not sure who enjoys working themselves to the bone just to keep you with the Joneses. Nothing wrong with working hard per se and it is good to push yourself hard but not just so you can have a better car than you neighbours.

Would you agree that 'life is pointless'?

Life is far from pointless. I am saying that keeping up with some arbitrary measure of your worth is pointless.

I think he's trying to say that life is meaningless, Its not pointless as we have to eat, reproduce, etc.

Nor am I saying life is meaningless. My life has meaning as I bring joy, love and laughter to my family. Others may find meaning in more far reaching ways (charity workers in Africa for example)

The "rat race" is a creation of the Human Race self-inflicted by the greedy.

Life's always going to be terrible if you don't have passion in it, I was all doom and gloom and depression until I found something I genuinely love doing! Unhappy with your life then just jack it in and do something you will enjoy, if that means buggering off to a different country or just finding a new career then do it! Life for me just isn't worth wasting 8 hours a day in a job your hate. Sounds like some sort of cheesey self help book but it works for me.
