Essential Android Apps

xscope is blinding and easily the fastest (try the javascript benchies, it destroys everything else) If only text reflow and double tap was more natural, still the best though...

Skyfire is great too but like opera it's server based, not a huge fan of all these companies monitoring your web use.

Yeah, I decided to use xscope over skyfire last night :D, it just felt quite a bit more snappier I reckon, plus a nicer, more minimal UI with tabs :D

Yup, that's also one disadvantage off using skyfire as well, although really loved the flash video player (still on 2.1 at the minute :()

With android being from google I've a feeling we're all being monitored anyway!

What does one more cyberstalker matter?

;)

Lol, very true :p

Fair enough. Out of interest, what bugs were there? Haven't had my Desire long enough to find any :)

I've not seen a list of vulnerabilities/bugs fixed in the last update but I have noticed that the player is far more responsive then it first was.

Yeah, compared to the 10.1 that was shipped with Froyo it's much, much smoother (although I get a few audio sync issues and more white screens now)

Get 2.2 asap! Browser speeds are miles quicker! + with the constant 10.1 flash updates it's a cracking web platform!

I purchased xscope 6 today :) It's a great companion to the default browser. Good luck to them, I hope they get the funds/success they deserve!

Did a quick cpu power usage comparison for all the browsers, I might do a proper one soon if I have the time (so take the figures with a pinch of salt)

Dolphin HD: 113%
Android: 100%
xscope: 98%
Skyfire: 95%
Firefox: 58%
Opera: 54% (uses 46% less cpu when browsing)

Lol, very true :p

:p Maybe I'm over reacting, the t&c Skyfire make you accept scared the bejesus out of me :) (I.e. Skyfire: we watch and own everything you do, accept?)

Can anyone recommend a weather app similar to Weather Pro for the iPhone?

Have it on my Touch and I like the satellite and radar images :p

Lol I wish I could, but leshak and the CM developers are still developing it for the spica :(, although pretty much everything is working apart from the camera and bluetooth I think and apparently it is very stable so far, they just need to fix a few bugs and tune it a wee bit in terms of increasing battery life and performance.

One thing, which I have noticed with xscope is that sometimes when I click on a link e.g. "essential android apps", nothing will happen at all, seems as if xscope has frozen, but if I hit menu or show/hide the notification bar and try clicking the link again it will work , also noticed that when I have about 4 or more tabs opened, the browsing will become very sluggish and sometimes xscope will force close :(, didn't have these problems with the stock browser at all.

But apart from those minor annoyances, it's the best/fastest :D

Thanks for those quick tests/results :)

Wow , firefox only 58% :p, thought it would have been worse than dolphin :p

Lol :p, maybe they should change there name to skynet :p :o

I'm tempted by that new San Francisco phone, but are there any music good creation apps for Android at all?

Right now I use Nanostudio on my iPod which is an amazing app, is there anything similar for Android?

Here's a video of Nanostudio so you can get an idea of what I'm after:

Cheers.

That really does look good and I want it now! Could have loads of fun on the train with that :D

From your link:
@SFledz The audio latency on Android devices is too high - around the order of 100ms compared to the iPhone's 10ms. Until they sort this out, it's not going to happen - which is a shame, because NanoStudio is written to be cross platform.

@SFledz Hopefully they'll get there with it, I get a lot of requests for this. NanoStudio isn't too Apple-specific so although a port would still be a fair amount of work, it would be definitely possible.

Anyone know of a decent football score checker? I used the google one for a while, but having to wait 15 minutes for it to tell me someone has scored annoyed me :(
