Essential Android Apps

I think the official Twitter app is the neatest - good interface and I like the widgets. Don't understand why it has to be so big though, and you can't move it to SD card. But if you've got the room, I'd go with that one.

If you convert all your filesystems (/system, /data, /cache) to ext2 you don't need to "move" it to the SD card as it's technically already there - but your phone will think it's on the internal memory as the system and data partitions are already on the card by default :)

That's what I've done with mine, the phone is so much faster for it too

I tried as many as I could. I love Tweetdeck on my desktop, but on Android, only the official Twitter client fit the bill.

Tweetdeck had an annoying thing where it only displayed the publication time of the top tweet in view, in a little bar at the top of the screen. Totally retarded if you ask me, when there was plenty of room for a tiny time to be printed on each tweet.

Do you need root for that? Is there a decent guide anywhere?

Yes you need to be rooted, I'm using CM Recovery 2.5 and that has the options in there, depending on your phone you may be able to get CM Recovery 3 even, I dunno... but it's pretty straight-forward

On my phone it's simply:

Boot to recovery
Select 'advanced'
Select 'filesystem conversion'
Select each 'data' 'system' 'cache' seperately
After selecting one, select ext2

Job done :) once you've done all three, reboot and that's it - sorted :)

As I said, that's how it is in my recovery - but I would imagine they're all pretty much the same layout as that :)

Changed from LauncherPro Plus to GO Launcher today, just gave it a try and noticed it has the same functionality but seems a bit smoother and quicker.
I'm already using GO SMS (beats Handcent) and GO Contacts (includes Dialler), they make some great software.

May have to give Go SMS a try in that case. I like Handcent but it's become horrendously bloated lately, so many changes and extra stuff that just doesn't need to be there.

Yeah GO SMS is better and faster than Handcent from my experience, although I don't have contact pictures working any more, even after reverting to the previous version of facebook.

What's the best remote app for being able to browse media files via Wifi on my PC? I know about Unified Remote but is there anything better?

EDIT: Should say browse and play!!

Also, is there anything that let's you stream music from your PC to your phone?

I've used Go and Handcent side by side before and I found them both fast but Handcent is better featured and the layout is a tad nicer as well once you've tailored it. My customisations suit Gingerbread's style and feel.

I use all the GO apps, there is a football scores one but when i downloaded it it was very very slow so will give it a while and then have another look at it :)
