Okay,
I used Navfree after work yesterday and again this morning on the way to work.
My observations are:
* This morning my commute took 26minutes. Navfree consumed 10 minutes of CPU time during this period.
I unplugged my phone almost exactly an hour before this so for those 26 minutes, Navfree used up 32% of battery and I was left with 88% battery level when I got into work.
This is from a full charge so using the above, I should be able to navigate for probably up to 3 hours which isn't as power efficient as Google Navigation. This is on a Galaxy SII with extended battery so normal battery users will see even less!
* The voice actually does say junction numbers on
some junctions but not all, it doesn't say names though.
* It seemed accurate enough even if the map update wasn't buttery smooth.
* Voice volume is high even at 70%, you won't have any trouble hearing it with music on and it's very clear as well. The voice is not robotic and is rather easy to understand. It's not as nice as IVONA but it's as good as a modern Garmin or TomTom IMO.
* The detour function and route options seem quite good.
* Speeding warnings did not work for me, not that I'm complaining
* Recalculation happens instantly.
Quite a few of the features I like, it isn't as polished as Google Nav but it has some unique features for being free too so I think I'll spend some more road time with it when I travel to London this weekend and will probably end up keeping it installed as a secondary navigator...but only with a charger socket connected!
