Essential Android Apps

Just started using Swype. I've heard of it before but not used it previously. Seems to be very fast when it gets the word first time but some words it is very hard to do. Such as "it" "is" "though"...

Launcher Dock

Brillint app that turns one icon into 8. You can choose what you out into it. Basically you hit an icon, and it loads up to 8 icons that you can customize, so it makes your home screen so much easier.

Ah I see now.

Google Maps has this built in. Load up Maps and click the search button and then type in a business name.

Maps will show them on the map with the option to navigate to, call, view info etc (if you updated to Maps 4.x).

Click the bottom left button on the map to list all findings.

@SouthWales: yeah, google maps does what you ask for. Just read your thread re your X10, android and viruses. Maybe not knowing about what the stock apps do explains your views on android and the market.

OK, I'm assuming that was aimed at me even though you quoted my location and not my name. If you read the thread properly you would see this is my first android phone......thanks for the lesson (all be it a very blunt one).

Also, My views of android at the moment are accurate. A load of apps written by randoms which much of the time require further development.

Did people give you such a blunt welcome to this forum when you were new?

Have you had the initiation yet?

Sometimes peoples tone and manner gets lost in the text but the vast majority of people on here are happy to help and ridicule at the same time. Take it all with a pinch of salt and a sunny disposition and you will be fine.

Sorry. I admit it was a little blunt but I don't think I was rude. You're views on the Android Market are your views. You can't say they're accurate or inaccurate because it's personal opinion. My opinion is that maybe you're unimpressed with Android because you're not familiar enough with it yet (like not knowing you already had an app that did stuff you were looking for other apps to do).

Anyway, please don't take my bluntness as rudeness because that wasn't my intention. Oh, and sorry for calling you by your location! :p

NP :p

I have been playing with the phone loads and trying various apps. I'm starting to warm to it but still have my concerns. I've spoken to a few people who have all said the same as me....when they first got their android phones they seemed to hate it, then when they got used to it....they loved it.

My worry is that I only have 10 days to play and make my mind up whether android is for me. If not, I'll wait for the new iphone to come out before deciding on my new handset.

Cool, thanks for the heads up on the netcounter app, just installed it now. Most handy to have.

I just need to work out my billing dates now and set that along with the monthly limit and I'm good to rock and roll. :D :D :D

Net counter won't record WiFi for me. Anyone know why my weather location won't show? It used to work but stopped now.

Also battery seems to drain fast. Coming from winmo is quite a learning curve.

I've installed different txt app but when I get a text I get two notifications, one on each app?
