Essential Android Apps

Finally got around to installing Handcent but when when trying to set the bubble colour to white (all colours at 255) it looks like a light brown colour rather than white.

Is there a way to fix this or do I just have to deal with it?

A summery of the current apps on my Nexus.

Regarding apps:

There's one called AppBrain. You install this free app on your phone. Then sign in with your google account on their website http://www.appbrain.com/

The site functions as an Android Market browser but also you can selects apps to install on the site, and next time you sync the app on your phone it installs all the apps you selected online.

You use your google sign in / password on a non google site? Could be missing something here but that seems rather silly to me!

No when you launch AppBrain it takes you to Google's signin page, once confirmed you are taken back to AppBrain, you can then sign into AppBrain's website using your Google credentials.

It's all tied in pretty well.

I was told about Tripit yesterday. A very good app used to store all the details of holiday/travels/business trips on their website, and then use the app to view it all on the phone. Very handy :).

What's a good free file manager other than Astro? I tried the one called File Manager but it refused to open my Word docs for example so I uninstalled that.

I use Estrongs, but none of them will open Word Docs if you don't have something to handle word docs installed.

Thanks. Ok I will try that. I do have an app to open Word docs but it's just that it wouldn't open them (Quick Office) within File Manager but with Astro I could for some reason.

Just tried ADW.Launcher, like the amount of customizable options, but its not as smooth as launcher pro and you don't appear to be able to pick any icons for the shortcuts?

Alpha on the app drawer looks good though, would be nice to have a similar feature on launcher pro.

Drag the icon you want to the shortcuts :p

I'm clearly slow on the uptake, appbrain is awesome!

My phone is looking far more pimp now i'm using launcher and have plenty of nice looking new widgets.

I'm still trying to find a full bookmark widget like sense has, anyone know of any decent ones?

LauncherPro Beta v0.5.1 released (0.5.0 had a scrolling bug)

A new build of LauncherPro Beta has just been uploaded to the Android market. Here’s what’s new:

  • Fixed description of “Opening Speed” preference
  • Fixed (hopefully) problem when setting the drawer opening speed to 10
  • New LauncherPro-style icons for Google Voice and Camera. More coming soon.
  • New 3D app drawer. This feature is EXPERIMENTAL. It probably has some bugs and uses more memory than the 2D drawer, so it might cause some instability. Use at your own risk. To enable it, go to Preferences > Advanced settings > Use 3D drawer.

Click here or here to download the APK file.

3D App Drawer is working very nicely, perfectly smooth so far. Lush.

:D
