Essential Android Apps

Pretty disappointed in the keynote tbh, nothing more than a mention of Ice Cream Sandwich and a load of services not even available in the UK :(

How can shareholders be happy with something like this (Android@Home) which makes Google no money? Google's employees have a license to create whatever they want :p.

They do, Google has a policy called "20 percent time" where employees are encouraged to create their own stuff. IIRC Google Maps and a fair few of Google's high profile products came out of this.

Thanks for your interest in Music Beta! We'll get back to you when your invitation is ready.

Just use an American proxy ;)
Such as? :) I just searched for one but I'm a bit dubious about logging into my Gmail account through a proxy. Call me paranoid...!

Google Music looks absolutely epic!

Thanks. Just signed up too. I did temporarily change my password to login through it, though. You can never be too careful :p

Fingers crossed now! I love the fact you can cache whatever you want. I was watching the video thinking 'yeah, but all that streaming is going to kill my Desire's battery' then they showed the caching options. Win!

I suppose...people see it and like it, people buy Android phones, Google gets a better idea of what more people are like and hence can sell more advertising.

The whole Google business model is built on search. Gmail, Calendar, Android, is all built to provide more people, with more ways to search for things.

Putting search in your hand is whole reason Google built Android (well that and fact that Apple would have had them over a barrel otherwise..)

I understand that, but the financial link is tenuous.

Investment in android@home -> increased usefulness of android -> increased uptake of android OS -> more money through search.

Enable 2-step verification on your account then use the android app to generate unique login codes. Even if your password is compromised an "attacker" would need the 6 digit code.
