Essential Android Apps

I only ever connect to my home wifi or use my phone as a dongle, I used facebook once on a train wifi but I was seriously bricking it lol

It's not just public, it's any network you can get on to.

A university wifi network for example would be interesting.

Or a work wifi network as it's connected to the LAN too so potentially should be able to see who's using facebook/twitter during work hours :o

^^ Hmmm. Thanks for the reminder. I played around with Songbird's early beta releases, but eventually dumped it due to the inconvenience of having to switch to another app to rip CDs, edit tags or d/l album art. Might have to check it out again... been years now.

On my SGS, though, I am currently seriously in love with PowerAMP. Gonna have to be a special player that tears me away from it before the trial period is up...

Firefox 4 has just been released, it looks pretty good so far.

Tried it out and still prefer Boat Browser Mini. FF4 doesn't support native bookmarks and scrolling in it appeared to be less smooth and font rendering seemed weird too.

Also there's no way to change User Agent and you had a lot less options to play with compared to other browsers!

Boat browser has been removed from the market by Google.

Probably due to all the other browser developers complaining about it though due to his description :p

Although I would advise everyone who is still using it, not to enter any important passwords like banking stuff etc. to be on the safe side until it gets put back on the market and/or we know exactly what the reason was as to why it was removed in the first place.

Seems it was pulled "temporarily" because indeed, it did resemble Applie's iPhone rbowser and the description did seem anti-competition as it named the other browsers and called them slower :p

I think it looks way better anyway!

I'm finding MyNetDiary diet app pretty good... have lost a few kilos with it and am on target to stop being such a fat-arse!

Dolphin HD 5.0 has been released, fantastic update it's even faster now with all the same functionality.

Not tried Boat Browser yet though but so for me Dolphin is my favourite, even more so now.

I tried Dolphin HD v5 and while it's better than the previous version it's still not as smooth as Boat Browser Mini when scrolling content heavy pages and there's no easy way to change User Agent or manage bookmarks among other things.

Boat Browser remains the king, well, 2nd best for smoothness next to Samsung's stock browser but 1st place for everything else!

All 3 browsers play 1080p flash hd videos as smooth as each other though.
