Essential Android Apps

I tried Dolphin HD v5 and while it's better than the previous version it's still not as smooth as Boat Browser Mini when scrolling content heavy pages and there's no easy way to change User Agent or manage bookmarks among other things.

Boat Browser remains the king, well, 2nd best for smoothness next to Samsung's stock browser but 1st place for everything else!

All 3 browsers play 1080p flash hd videos as smooth as each other though.

You can change user agent on Dolphin 5 quite easily. Settings > dolphin settings > user agent.

Now we have 26 albums uploaded to the cloud for the Google Music beta. Time to play with the app.

Have you been noticing it takes a really long time to upload, I was thinking about it on the way in this morning and iirc they re-encode it so I'm guessing that's done on the pc pre-upload which kinda makes sense and would explain the speed,

Or I'm just too used to the download rate and not really tested my upload so finding out how much slower it is :p

Started mine after work yesterday evening (around 18:30 iirc) and left it on overnight and it was on 745 songs out of 4200 ish at 5:40 ish when I was getting ready to leave...

On to the actual streaming, tried it on GPRS last night (speedtest put me at around 20-30kbps due to living in the middle of nowhere), just started it going on 'H' at work and after a bit of a delay (compared to WiFi) it started playing fairly fast and within 1 minute the 5:51 song was completely buffered apparantly, and I read last night that it then goes on to start buffering the next track or two after that so very usable :)

My PC upload took around 13 hours. :p:D Talk about slow but the stream does look good and usable. I will be playing with this today.

Looks good on the 10.1 although some album art is missing.

Is there an app that will sync my Outlook tasks to my phone without having to use Gmail or any third party sign ups etc?

I use Outlook for everything and it currently syncs to my phone via Exchange which is great for my contacts and calendar. However it doesn't do Tasks! I've found a few but they all seem to sync to Gmail or some other website first.

Yeah, mine's still going, looking like it'll be around 3 days  for all of it, currently at 1281 tracks, It'll get there in the end :p

Been using the pc/web-page player during the day, it's really nice have 'all' my music (the stuff so far at least) readily available, before this I'd chucked a small amount of my music onto the work pc via memory stick but nowhere near all of it so some nice variety now :)

For the noLed notifications to work, do i HAVE to have the little app/icon on my homes screen, or can it be on any screen, have the little red square notification in the top left of the screen, I take it thats enough to know it "on"?

Jeez, i've got around 45k tracks! I think i'll pass on that. What is it that its actually doing? Just uploading the files to the cloud? or transncoding them aswell?

I could be mistaken but I believe it is transcoding them to lower quality mp3's (iirc around 256kbps?) but not 100% sure on that, and it may be doing that on Google's servers, I'm not really sure and it doesn't exactly give much information...

I can check cpu load whilst doing it later on thinking about it

And then obviously uploading them, my connection is ~0.8mbps generally so not amazing, the program does seem quite well suited to just limiting the upload and getting it to start up with the pc and letting it do it's stuff over a fairly long time, I've just left it unlimited and the pc on,

Note though that even at the beta stage it can 'only' do 20k tracks, 45k is madness :p

what's the best android alternative to Road Trip for iOS?
fuel.jpg

For all car costs inc servicing etc and fuel economy?

EDIT I'm trying fuel log atm, looks similar although not as polished

infact yea, with the default samsung browser how do you disable mobile view?

Cheers

Tom.

about:useragent

You have to do that every time the browser is fully closed and opened though, the setting reverts to Android from Desktop each time in the stock browser.

Boat Browser sticks with whatever you set. Dolphin HD has no option I could see to change user agent, same with Firefox.

As stated on previous page, it is in settings > dolphin settings > user agent.

My bad, I had a look specifically for it yesterday evening!

Either way, Scrolling content heavy pages is smoother on Boat.

Boat Browser grinded to a halt on giantbomb.com for me, on Dolphin it's quite smooth though... :S Must be a site to site difference.

The Safari like interface is horrible though, that is a definitive dealbreaker here.
