Essential Android Apps

Stupid question time.

Why are so many Apps on droid free?

I know some games have a little advertising, but a lot of very good apps dont.

I've noticed a weird bug in Handcent lately where the popup window appears on SMS inbound but when you go to use quick reply via the popup's text box no text can be entered once you start typing in it, you have to load the message in the full window to be able to type stuff in the text box.

I checked out GoSMS again as it appears to have undergone lots of changes and it is indeed quite nice now and very much like Handcent but allows backup and restore of SMS and settings to the SD card without having to buy a subscription.

Needless to say, Handcent is frozen now :p

GoSMS

GO SMS Pro does indeed look to be very customisable, so I will be giving it a try tomorrow... thanks for the tip!

It is another FREE one too, which always helps! :)

I am also going to try the keyboard which Margaret mentioned earlier.

Find this keyboard a nice improvement over Gingerbread, prediction can be a bit odd at first though.

I tried this keyboard after your suggestion and it's fantastic for me. The only gripe I've got is the symbol placements compared to the gingerbread keyboard, it was the only reason I went back to it after getting my sgs2!

This one is fantastic for fast typing if you're pretty good at writing a text at speed.

I'd look at another keyboard but I'm quite used to swype.

The only thing I hate about the standard keyboard is that stupid voice input key is next to the full stop and I keep hitting it.. :(

Given that I probably listen to an album a day, 30 x 100MB = 3GB

3GB @ £5 per 500MB = £30

So £30 a month for Google Music, err no thanks :p

Who do you have that with and how much do you pay for it just out of interest?

It shouldn't be that bad, personally I've got wifi at home and work (kinda obviously) where I spend most of my time, if I am going away for a few days there's the 'make available offline' option and got ~19Gb storage space on the phone anyway so that should work nicely on restricting data usage,

My view is that it's simply an easier way to share my music amongs my home/work pc's, work laptop if I'm working offsite, and my phone of course, and probably a tablet in a few months...

On the note of the music beta, had it limited over the weekend so didn't get all that much done, but unrestricted it late last night and it's going at a much better upload rate now, almost done with my 4200 or so tracks :)

anyone found a decent golf game yet? given the plethora of pool & footy games i surprised there is apparently only one proper golf game (which looks poor)
