Essential Android Apps

Not wanting to be a stick in the mud, but Aptoide repositories are almost exclusively used for downloading warez and everything that isn't warez in the repositories is available in the Android Market. I really don't think ripping off developers is something that should be encouraged here.

No-one has specifically mentioned ANY warez... and both apps are freely available on the official market, and hold a ton of freely available apps also. It's like discouraging people from talking about the internet because it can be used to download naughty things. If and when someone does break a rule please feel free to report it to the mods. :)

I've tried Sygic a couple of time in the past few months on my galaxy S, but it tends to freeze after about 10-20 minutes. Apart from this it was good, so might try it again on the GS2 i've got being delivered today.

Copilot has always worked fine though.

Agreed, it leaves a bit of a bitter taste in the mouth, I think the efforts of these usually small development companies should at least be rewarded with 59p, £2 or whatever their apps cost.

But I guess its 'LOL poor people'

There's a lot of apps on there that seem dodgy/pointless as well as many that are on Market anyway. I thought Sygic was pay and trial (15mins) but it seems it's on the Market anyway for 7 days free.

I won't be using it beyond that anyway though so I'll return to the Market. Have 120 apps and 11 of which are paid apps. All good.

Also, Handcent is gone now, Go SMS Pro is really nice. In fact it seems I'm using the whole set of Go apps now from launcher to SMS to dialler.

This dev is too good.

There are very few legitimate reasons why anyone would use it over the official Android market though. 90% of people will be using it to pirate apps.

Possibly, but good job we live in a democracy where people are innocent until proven guilty, eh?

Well considering you mentioned the pirate repository when someone asked about a paid app being free it doesn't really take a rocket scientist to know what you were implying does it.

Anyway, can we go back to talking about apps rather than pirating software.

I didn't mention the "pirate repository", I mentioned the "Aptoide Repositories" app that is legitimately available in the market. It contains many common free apps that are barred in some areas of the world depending on your location, so provides a convenient way to circumvent this.

Doesn't sounds quite as innocent when you look at the context.

Is it....free?

I should probably check eh :p

Aptoide Installer + Aptoide Repositories, both available from the market.

That is all. :p

What's the best traffic monitoring app/widget? Not that I'm bothered as I have unlimited data but I'm curious. :)

I'm thinking that this kind of app would have to run frequently to get counter data and plot graphs so might be a battery muncher..

I've used 3G Watchdog for quite a while now and it's been pretty accurate in measuring my 3G usage.
