Essential Android Apps

With GO Sms I have a few things to ask.
1, when the SMS comes through I get the phones stock SMS sound, then the one I have chosen in Go SMS both playing one after the other, anyway to stop this?..of do I just put the stock to silent?

2, I still have the Notification screen (pull down screen thing) take me to the stock SMS on the phone, anyway to set it as the default?

Turn off notifications in the stock app, that will sort both.

I've uninstalled Swype, Samsung Keyboard and Cyanogen's keyboard now. It's a battle of Thumb keyboard and Swift X Beta! they're both very good and accurate but I have a feeling Thumb will win due to the customisable split keyboard in landscape!

Swift X (SX) is proving MILES better than Gingerbread keyboards (GBK) for me... I was making tons of mistakes with GBK much to my friends amusement... but now with SX my texts are much more coherent, and the autocorrect more accurate. Im not sold on letting it have access to my Facebook etc though... or the whole "whatever you write will be recorded by SX, including passwords" thing. I'm not the paranoid kind of guy, but it just makes me uncomfortable.

Will give Thumb keyboard a try too. :)

Swift learns all the time, the more you allow it to learn the more accurate it gets. Mine is 29% accurate at the moment and that's slowly going up. I have let it scan my Gmail and Twitter and SMS so that prediction is on the ball now.

Ive been thinking Of Giving swiftkey a go for a while, didnt realise there was a beta for swiftkey x that was free, i was prepared to pay to give it a go.

I doubt it will replace swype since i love it so much, but i might keep it on my phone to use every so often.

Im looking for an app that can tell me how many texts i have left to use on average every day... so if i use 100 and have 20 days left it will tell me i can use 20 per day etc?

Any of the monitoring apps that do this?

Yeah i use Stats free it gives a % which is quite nice.. (specially as im way over my allowance already xD) But i want it to say if you send x amount per day you wont go over etc

Grand Prix Story by Kairosoft has swallowed up far too many of my hours today. Also, for you guys recommending Go! SMS, what advantages does it have over handcent? It's always been solid for me.

I find go sms much quicker to use overall and just the general UI overall is better as well. Plus personally I think handcent has got bloated in the last few months with a ton of features which aren't necessary (well for me anyway :p)

I wouldn't say it was an 'essential' yet, but it's one that I'll be watching with interest: the same guy who made Launcher Pro has created an Android version of the stock music player on WP7. It's still a bit buggy and is indeed classed as an alpha, but it looks fantastic and downloads a pic of the band/artist automatically:

Apologies if this is a repost - don't recall seeing it in the thread thus far ...

Can anybody suggest a light-weight app that will let me change the shortcuts on the dock at the bottom of my homescreen?

I had LauncherPro installed which did the trick but it ran a bit sluggish on my lil' Pulse whenever I returned to the homescreen, so I removed it. It's a shame because I loved how customisable it was.
