Essential Android Apps

I think the phone is fubar today :/

quite a few apps fail to work , so have to force close on start
 
Wanted to just ask what everyone's fav nagivation app was, my dad has a phone without a data plan so cant use google maps. Got co-pilot but my Dad didn't really like it so wants something new.
 
Well, having got my Android phone a few days ago I was looking at apps, but this thread is huge so any chance someone can post up a summarised list or update the OP?

(Also waiting for a mini table to be delviered - was ordered a while back before I got the phone :D)
 
The main ones that I use mith are (all from Android App Store unless otherwise stated):

ES File Explorer (Free, does what it says)
Titanium Backup (Free version, backs up all your apps/settings, requires root)
SMS Backup+ (Free, backs up SMS and call log to gmail account)
Barcode Scanner (Free, for scanning QR codes)
Adfree Android (Free, edits hosts file with lots of ad sites so that they don't appear, requires root)
ESPN ScoreCentre (Free, gives football/F1/Tennis etc. scores, can add favourite team etc. to easily see your teams scores)
BetterBatteryStats (Free from XDA, shows all wakelocks to find out what's draining your battery)
GMail (Free, access to GMail accounts, has push email support)
Opera Mobile (Free, better than the stock browser)
Amazon App Store (Free from Amazons site, requires a US account can be made with following this guide, get their "Free App Of The Day" each day, can't buy things here due to needing an American CC)

Edit - Oh, I use SwiftKey X as a keyboard too, you have to pay for it though, I got it free from Amazon App Of The Day though :p.

Edit again - SwiftKey X is free on GetJar.com :).

One off download, it asks you to pay if you try and update it through the market, but tbh if you type Paper Camera 1.2c apk (latest version) into google you can find a download link within 10 seconds :/

I managed to get Amazon app store downloaded when it was available for download in Europe, however even after setting up the 1 click system it says its not available in your region.

I take it Amazon have reversed the decision for a rollout?

Use the above to make an American account, obviously you won't be able to buy anything as a US credit card is required but you can get their "Free App Of The Day" no problem :).
 
Guy,

Quick question but what's the best weather widget taking into account weather. I use GoWeather but in I'm in a call or no GPS it gives errors in the notification bar and I'm pretty sure that it is using battery for that even though I set it to only update once a day ...

What do you all suggest? [I'm a SII user]
