Essential iPhone Apps

Wow. I never thought that Apple would do that, not in a million years!

[edit] Downloaded. Much faster than Safari - going back and forward through your history is instant. But it just doesn't feel right. There are only two zoom-levels: full-size and page view. Zoomed-out pages are unreadable - text is just a solid block. Scrolling is laggy. All the UI and controls look non-native.

Not a bad first effort, but needs refining.

I cant find the bleeder! :p

Comes up for me if you search the App Store for 'opera mini'.

Think I might use this when on 3G or worse, but stick to Safari on wi-fi.

It also has some pretty nasty rendering bugs.

More importantly, Football Manager Handheld is out. :D

Relatively expensive at £6.99 but I bought it anyway. I thought that the old PSP version was very good.

Ahh that's very tempting. I take it you can't use games from the computer - that'd be awesome :D. Might wait a little while then try it, didn't really enjoy CM, so hopefully a more natural FM would be better.

long shot but is there an app / way I can via wifi get access to my home network shares to view photos / videos ?

Air Video can fulfil this requirement to some extent.

You need to install a (free) program that acts as a server on your home PC and select what video files to share. Then just install the iPhone app (there's both free with limited features and paid ones available).

You can then stream the shared video files over Wifi or even 3G (it works pretty well). The great thing though is it will convert any non-supported video files on the fly. Meaning you can watch DivX / MKV stuff from anywhere on your iPhone.

Can't believe I just bought the Smule Glee app. :D

*Edit. Fun though really not worth the money, plus you only get three songs and have to pay 0.59p for the few extra available songs. Pft.
Wish I hadn't of bothered.

Yeah Angry Birds is my most played app so far, Plants v Zombies was good while it lasted, completed it in about a tenth of the time of Angry Birds though.
Zombie smash is still on sale at the moment and well worth the 0.59p. Get it.
