Essential PS2 Games

Right I've decided as a treat to myself for working hard both at work and at Uni lately, that come payday in a couple of weeks (and coincidently just about when I finish Uni), I'm going to treat myself to a second hand PS2 and a few games as I used to own a PS2 and somewhat regret selling it.

I've decided on:
FF10 (had it before and want it again)
Silent Hill Collection (or possibly just the first couple)
Star Ocean: To The Ends of Time (Because I love RPGs and I loved Star Ocean 2)

Any other crucial ones I'm missing out on?
I don't need any that are multi format because I'd rather get them on the X-Box anyway. Half tempted by GT4 but I tend to prefer more arcadey racers.

Not at all interested in God of War or Shadow of the Colossus, or any fighting games.

Anyone played Dragon Quest? That looks like my kind of thing possibly.

I'm trying to keep to older games to keep costs down too.

Are you in to First Person shooters? If so Timesplitters is a total classic - get a few mates on a custom made map and that's your week gone.

Already got the second one on the X-Box But tbh I tend to prefer FPSes on the PC unless they're exceptional.

Try to find a copy of the first - infinitely better than the second! Oh and what about the Metal Gear games?

If I can find it cheap I'll have a look
I wasn't very keen on Metal Gear solid 2 when I played it last time I had a PS2, loved the first one but just wasn't interested in the second one.

It's kind of a fighting game, but have you played Z.O.E (Zone Of the Enders)? I thought it kicked ass it also has a bit of stats building in it.

That does look pretty good Even better it's dirt cheap on ebay so think I'll be picking up a copy of that sometime
Got nothing against fighting games, just don't want anything like Tekken because I've already got Soul Calibur 2 and I don't really play enough beat em ups to need another one.
But Z.O.E looks a bit different.

Not my kind of thing really. I like Silent Hill but I never liked Resident Evil for some reason.

I'll see what price I can get MGS3 for then and see. Same with Futurama. I'm trying to be fairly cheap with what I buy because I don't particularly want to spend £30 for a game for a console that's getting on a bit.

Not bought the PS2 yet, waiting for payday in 2 weeks time. Although not really bothered about playing online. I've got X-Box Live but I very rarely go on it. Use the PC for online gaming instead.

I've not heard great things about it, plus it looks a bit girly :/ But might see how cheap it is.
Noticed you can get some real bargains on ebay so hopefully it'll remain that way when it comes to when I buy everything.

I'm sure you'll be able to pick up Futurama on the cheap - heck, they may even pay you to take it!!! (but it is fun though).

There's loads of different costumes or something to collect isn't there? Just seems a bit un FF ish to me :/
Very Japanese but not my kind of thing if that's the case.

Got some more - Devil May Cry series and Dynasty Warriors 2 and on. Both fighting with stat building.

Not sure about Devil May Cry, but Dynasty Warriors 2 is dirt cheap so might do.

God of War is a cracking game for the ps2

Not at all interested in God of War or Shadow of the Colossus

That's typical Just had a quick scout round ebay and the three games that I definitely want no question about it, are all about £10 each.
So as it stands, I'm looking at getting:
FF10
Silent Hill 1 (the first one will keep me busy till I have some more money to get the collection)
Star Ocean: To The Ends of Time
Zone of the Enders
Dynasty Warriors

Should keep me busy Roll on payday and Uni ending

I've got a PS1 with 2 memory cards anyway so no worries there

Got Escape to Monkey Island on the PC SSX Tricky I might do though, depends if it's cheapest on PS2 or X-Box.

Been reading some reviews and Dragon Quest and Star Ocean look like my kind of thing.
I've recently sold my Gamecube and don't really want to buy another one so Tales of Symphonia's out.
I remember renting the first Shadow Hearts game years ago, it was so crap

Z.O.E seems to go on ebay for about £3 at most so figure it's worth a go

Bought one a bit earlier than I planned
But I'm still not touching it till I finish Uni
Got one off ebay with FF10, FF10-2, Prince of Persia: Warriors Within and some game called GhostHunter (?).
2 games I realllllly wanted, and one I wouldn't mind and it was a good price so couldn't resist

Make sure you get Prince of Persia: The Two Princes when you're done with number 2. I preferred it to the 2nd one, but the first is still the best. Nice stealth kill action in the 3rd one though

Actually I misread the auction It's The Two Thrones not Warrior Within.
Was only really bidding on it for the PS2 and the FFs, PoP was a bonus

Why no to God of War or Shadow of the Collusus? Not played either of them but they'd be up there on my immediate buy list if I ever actually got a PS2.

They're just not my kind of thing.
They're the kind of thing I'd play for a couple of hours, think was really good but inevitably never complete and just end up selling or leaving in a dust corner.
So I figure as I know that's going to happen and i'm keeping my budget low, there's not much point bothering

I am amazed by how many people didn't notice that I said not God of War or Shadow of the Collossus or any multiformat games though

Tbh I think I'm just going to stick with what comes with the console for now and pick up Star Ocean at a later date, then see how money goes. No point buying loads when i know I'll never get round to really playing them.

You must buy GT4, it is the only reason I kept my PS2 and didnt trade it in for my 360!

I'll see. I'm uber picky with racing games mainly because I'm crap at 90% of them Did like the first two though.
