Ethernet doesn't have valid ip config

Hi,

I've got a desktop in our legal dept that all week, at 10:20-10:30 has the internet connection go down.

Run the troubleshooter and it tells me that the ethernet doesn't have a valid IP config.

I have to set the IP manually to something that works, apply it, then go back in and set it back to automatic. It fixes it every time.

My problem is, does anyone know what is causing this issue or how I can go about troubleshooting this?

I ran an ipconfig cmd and it came back showing:

Autoconfig IPv4 Address = 169.254.50.200
Subnet Mask = 255.255.0.0
Default gateway = BLANK

No IPv6 info.

After setting it myself and setting back to auto is shows:

Autoconfig IPv4 Address = 192.168.1.124
Subnet Mask = 255.255.255.0
Default gateway = 192.168.1.1

IPv6 info is shown.

The first place to look (for me anyways) would be event viewer.

While it may not state something being changed within the NIC, it should tell you activity of certain applications.

Nope, no changes to the system or the hardware at all, cable hasn't been changed. I will replace it though and wire it directly to the switch instead of the via the phone as they are all set up currently.

Nothing in event viewer for that time, in fact, there's nothing been added in 10 months to it.

What make is the phone mate?

My guess would be a dodgy link. Cable it direct to the switch and see if that resolves your issue, if it does change the patch lead to the phone and if it's not that change the phone. It could be a config issue but unsure.

That's my step I think and i'll be looking at it this afternoon when I've dealt with numpties and their "URGENT" (very minor) issues... :D

By any chance is it a Realtek GBe adapter and Windows 10?

Oddly enough the same thing happened to me at work, a couple of days ago it was with my boss's PC, and then today it was with my own. Tried updating the driver, removing in device manager and reinstalling it, using a new cable, connecting directly to the router, restarting the router, but they didn't work. Fixed IP however worked ok. Tried ipconfig /release which didn't work either but after randomly restting the switch it oddly worked after that. No idea what I did that exactly made it work...

Had 2 win 10 laptops have that error but on wireless networks this week.

Uninstalling the network card driver and rebooting seemed to clear one while the other came back after doing a firmware upgrade on the router. Think it must have been a windows update that changed something as everything else was working fine.

All the network settings in win 10 are all over the place, simple things like "forget network" seem hard to find.

I fear MS have laid off the old networking staff. They managed to completely break LACP in Windows 10 at some point after 10240 and they still haven't fixed the issue.

They seem to be more interested in adding 'wow features' instead of fixing fundamentals. With Windows 7 it was the audio stack that took a hit, (which did need a rewrite). Networking was perfect in 7, now it's a heck of a mess.

via the phone

could be the phone
cable to phone/from phone to pc (does the phone have a log or voip system showing connection status)
nic is failing on the pc
switch port having a wobbly
is nic speed set to auto

at 10:20-10:30 has the internet connection go down
what happens system wise everyday at this time

how long are the dhcp leases for?

does a simple ipconfig release renew work

really leftfield
at 1020 cleaner unplugs something/ connects to wrong plug socket to operate the hoover ...

I've had the same issue on another PC on Monday, took about 40 mins to sort it but had no issues with it again. This PC went down 5 mins after the first, and every day since.

Both are Windows 10 and both have Realtek PCIe GBE cards in.

Hoping to have some free time this afternoon to try all the possible solutions, problem is, I can only check it worked once each day at 10:20 :D
