hi guys i need a way to send an Ethernet signal out of my computer and in to my xbox360 as i can not plug routers in to my network any ideas?

I hope you realise before you try it you need 2 network ports/cards in the PC to share it. Also the best way would be a switch, theres no reason not to get one, it wont get in the way of the network and means 360 and PC can be used independently (instead of keeping pc on for 360 on live)

Well no the 360 auto senses and even if it didn't nearly all cards do now days.

It's hardly doing it shoddily when it's pretty much a given that any modern networking device will auto-detect and adjust accordingly.

there is a right way and anything else is wrong :p
its hardly hard to make/buy a crossover cable rather than a normal?

True. I guess I'm just personally used to having giant piles of cables sitting around and just plucking out whichever one is handy whenever I need one. The idea of recrimping each time I messed with something gives me shivers - perhaps unfairly after I made the mistake of crimping 60 cables in one afternoon once :/

I think that if you went with the original two network card solution eg. a motherboard with two network ports built in, then the crossover cable may well be required, as at least some Realtek on-board cards don't auto-detect. Technically, he was right, and therefore he can't ever actually be wrong.

I think what actually makes sense here is;

a) get a crossover cable as it WILL work

b) try a straight through cable and it MAY work

THE 360 AUTOSENSES SO IT WILL

For wired networks: Wired connectivity usually provides the most consistent and reliable performance for your network. When connecting to a wired network, you can use standard Ethernet (Cat5) cables to connect your Xbox 360 console to a modem, router, gateway, hub, or switch. The Xbox 360 console's auto-sensing port frees you from worrying about whether to use standard Ethernet cables or special crossover cables.

Technically they were both right if we are going down that road as you can use either cable

well i need every thing in my network to be reported with its mac address and switches and routers are not allowed :(

If you can't plug a router in, you're going to have issues adding another network card with an Xbox attached to it...

Sounds to me like plugging an xbox 360 into a work network, and not wanting it recognized to me.

The xBox 360 is not a switch or a router so you can't say can't plug in a 360 for that reason.

A switch would still show the 360's MAC adress on the networ, A router wouldn't but would show up as a router.

Will need a 2 port PC and then Internet Connection Sharing todo this.

yeah
two network cards bridged may work, or may not depending on how good the security is on the network
