How can you use the Friends list to find out which server people are playing on? Never seems to work for me
I think you can only connect to the server they are on rather than resolve which one they are on by just highlighting them. That needs to be fixed tbh...
  • Pawn means they are online
  • Black Pawn means they are offline
  • Pawn with yellow message icon means they havent been online since invite
  • Flashing? yellow message means a message is waiting
Probably very obvious all that :o

Does anyone know how to turn off the bobbing in console ?

Great game i think, Ive been waiting for this game for years and at first i was a bit gutted at how if was, but once u get to grips with the game and know what you have to do it really becomes fun, the aiming i found takes a lot to get used to what with the bobbing and all but once you get used to that its not too bad, but i still think the bobbing is very annoying.
Over all a good game and cant wait to get the full version and start fragging with a load of mates =)
Ill have a look as I think after Q4 this became a server side setting...

Try it and see - in etqwconfig.cfg:

seta pm_bobroll "0.002"
seta pm_bobpitch "0.002"
seta pm_bobup "0.005"
seta pm_runroll "0.005"
seta pm_runpitch "0.002"
seta pm_runbob "0.4"
seta pm_walkbob "0.3"
seta pm_crouchbob "0.23"

I am wondering if i could use my ET config on this.
The binds take a while to get used to and having 2 items under the one number is silly.
Also the accurised lacerator(sp) is a great gun but the same on the ghd side is under powered in comparison.
The vehicles are terrible and if it remains like that i think ill do what i did in bf2 and that is to look for infantry only servers.

Chris
Probably coulsd use the bind settings though might need some translation just like Q3 to Q4 needed - there is a bind.cfg file thats worth trawling through and updating (etqwbinds.cfg - back it up though) and I thought the same bind syntax should work...

I think it works well - they have the core right in my opinion (the balance of the internal classes and the infantry/artillery balance) just not the feel (yet).

They really need to address the vehicles and give them some weight and stats - so a tank works like a tank. The sounds so far are so-so, remind me very much of cpma - the graphics for me are fine (though competitively I consider good stable fps more important than eye candy). Speed of infantry might need tweaking though slowing it down too much would be a bane on a large map - I think ETQW will support 32player maps?...

To make the game work requires teamplay - no doubt about that - Ive played in matches where we have completed the map in 5mins because we all know what to do and then some matches where Im forever having to change class just to get stuff done - its very much a thought of efficiency in doing the objectives versus the ability to increase your XP by doing other tasks. What I have noticed is not all people use the advantages of their classes to make them play better - make sure you use deployables and support/escort certain fire teams...

Ive not played BF but I know loads of people here can give you their opinion on that - Id just like to remind them to consider how different BF was when ET was at its peak and the similar kinda of comments came up. Its like comparing Rugby League with Rugby Union...

Never had a chance to play ET properly as I was enjoying myself too much with Q3 CTF (played for 4-5yrs). The whole [OcUK] tag is just more for identification than a clan - though I wouldnt rule out getting one together once the game is out, though probably would need 20-30odd players...

Having played it a little more, I’ve changed my tune a little. Boring games happen when you're on a team that couldn't give a monkey's about missions. When you're on a team that does work together, it all seems to fall into place. A natural frontline is created, and it gets really heated for a 12v12 match.

I still hate vehicles, and I don’t like the fast nature of close quarter battles. In BF if you spot someone first you feel like you really do have the advantage, where as in QW it's just a matter of taking a hit, figuring out who shot you and discovering who is better at bunny hoping. I guess some people enjoy it, I just find it irritating.

That may be why I'm having fun discovering new weapons and abilities, and not having to engage someone up close with a rifle all the time.

Although fights in the sewers are pretty fun, it must be all the cover available. Rocket Laucnher for the win :D

Gonna try get a a few games in tonight. Not devoted all that much time to it yet.

At first I really wasn't impressed. The more I play it, the more I love it now. Like the above poster said, things just fall into place when people play it properly and you realise what is going on. It has some issues but what beta doesn't? :)

I do think I'll be buying this at release.

I really recommend people who didn't like it at first to give it a few more tries.

Ok... seems like there's a pretty much unanimous decision that this was a big dissapointment... :( Or are all these people wrong

Wrong

I love the game as do many other people, u just need to look at the server population in beta to know this games gonna be huge.

hmm, still not too sure for me. It feels to me like there's a good, if not great, game in there somewhere but they're not there yet. I understand that it's a beta and they've got a bit of time left yet but I can't see it changing massively before release, maybe a patch or two down the line?

I like the setup of it, the ideas, the way it seems it's meant to play out but as others are mentioning it just doesn't feel good. Vehicles are a joke to be honest, no meat to them at all. I was coming out of the GDF main base on a quad, tank comes up on the left of me, we collide, tank ROLLS OVER and I zoom of to construct my first guard tower! They all just feel like the same stiff, light weight cardboard box.

GFX are a bit hit and and miss for me as well, though there's some nice lighting and shadows, if a bit too subtle. Sounds need working on as well, again lack of punch to them.

On screen stuff is a bit too messy at the moment, txt etc popping up all over the show and ffs please stop people from having such messy multi coloured names.

Weight, meat, punch, presence, not sure what the word I'm looking for is but at the moment this game seems to be lacking it. Everything feels so disconnected.

Having said that though I'm not totally hating it and have probably put in about 6+ hours since Saturday.

Will keep my eye out for a demo nearer to release to see if much has changed but at the moment I think I'll wait and see how the reviews pan out and how big a community it gets behind it.

one problem im having is game runs fine for the first game i play, mainly at 60fps but dropping to 40 when lots of action. But when the first game is over and the next ones loads my fps seems to be capped at 30, doesnt go above or below it. Aint so bad cos its constant but it aint quite 60 i get on the first game!

Running 7.6 cats. Was using 7.4 cats before these, didnt get the 30 cap then but performance didnt drop into the 20s at times
