ETQW Public Beta (Free Accounts)

2 days in a row now ive been unable to play this because of this "server is full" crap. Is their server refresh system that slow that 15 people can bounce into it in the space of a milisecond or something?

We've found a bug in server reporting that causes server info to be scrambled when it's reported back to the server browser. When you try to join a game with free slots you might be sent to a different server at the same provider. More often than not this other server is full, giving you the rather confusing "Server is full" message. We're working to resolve the problem and provide a fix as soon as we can.
Well known issue...

So what are peoples opinions so far? Judging from the beta forums and the official forums it seems that a large amount of people want infantry combat slowed and a large amount want it kept the same. More people seem to be agreeing on the absolute suckage of the vehicle handling.

Sound effects i think most people would agree are absoloutely crap, its probably the only name i know where bullets impacting near to you probably sound louder than your own firing sound. GDF assault rifle sounds are laughable.

I like the speed, thought it would be faster actually so I'm quite pleased. Still a little too much bunny hopping for my liking though. Slowing it would spoil it imo. The vehicles also drive fine. They are just different to BF2 so people moan. Nothing wrong with them once you get used to it.

As for the sounds. I think they are pretty good also. Yes, the volumes are a little off and the GDF rifle sounds like a peashooter, but apart from that I think they are pretty good.

Remember, it is a beta. Things will change. Even for a beta I think it is a damn good game. Looks awesome, plays fantastic and runs like a dream. Most retail games of late can't say that, let alone a beta! :)

Vehicles are crap in this game (imo), they have virtually zero weight to them, especially the gdf vehicles. The gameplay as a whole has a floaty kind of a feel to it due to everything lacking any kind of weight\friction.

Obviously its a beta, just be interesting to se what gets changed about furing the testing.

What exactly do you mean by its lacking weight and friction? Floaty feel?

Are you high by any chance? :p

Possibly the fact that if you drive a titan tank, then jump into a hummvee they feel practically the same. Theres plenty of topics on the gamespy beta forums and the official forums talking about how bad the vehicles feel.

OMG what have they done to it? It's like a bad clone of BF. :(

How can they go so wrong after RTCW and ET multiplayer, both were class compared to this...

I gotta say I was a little bored. In BF it actually feels like you're in a battlefield. I'm not sure what it was about this, I just sorta felt like I was floating around waiting to get fragged. Also, I had no idea what I was doing. I'm aware there are missions, I would have loved some in game tips though, the map just confused me more.

The vehicles really are awful, if you honestly believe otherwise you're lying to yourself. I got in a tank and it felt like I wasn't touching the ground, I got in a walker and it felt like I wasn't touching the ground. They ALL suck.

I think I would enjoy it if they 1. Slowed infantry down a little (it actually wasn't anywhere near as fast as I thought it would be though) 2. Reduced your health, it takes too many hits to die. Or, some kind of inconvenience if you get hit, like reduced walking speed. 3. Fix vehicles

The graphics were better than I expected, after hearing a lot of moaning. Performance wasn't terrible I guess. I had everything on Highest 2xaa 8xaf 1680x1050 30-50fps. In doors was the only place it dropped to 30.

it wont change drastically, if it was pre-alpha maybe..

The ET beta and final product were almost identical.

Yup, everyones saying "beta" but in all the betas ive ben involved in there wasn't any drastic changes between beta and finished product. Some performance tweaks and minor adjustments for the most part. :(

As much as I'd like to deny it, but I agree with you.
There is a complete lack in "feel" to the game. I'm lacking vocabulary to describe it, but it just kinda looks n feels "plasticly".

Completely different games to analyze i guess, but if you take gears of war for example. All characters felt "chunky" and had a lot of substance to them.
Now I'm not saying that ET:QW should be like GOW, all I'm saying is that ET:QW is sorely lacking, something GOW got right... very very right.

I'll hold off judgement still, and still looking forward to it, just a bit less that I did a month or so ago.

The map is tiny and everything feels floaty, the tank just feels wrong it should be a hover tank because thats what it feels like, one thing this has over games of the same type is the infantry is strong and you don't feel like a you can't do anything when your not in a vehicle.

Personally I think they got the mission system about right. I had a much better idea of what to do when I first joined than when I did in BF, for example. The only problem is that I wasn't sure when I'd completed a mission or if someone else had done it (eg destroying an objective) but I don't suppose that matters in a team game.
