There's a myth that if Aliens were proved to exist that the Worlds religions would break down and there would be panic in the streets, the fact is that a few eyebrows would be raised because it would give every religion more bullets that their God created life elsewhere.
Several years ago the Pope even had his own Astronomer talking about it so they're ready.

My view is that other life exists out there but Fermi Paradox gets in the way and I really wish the series Ancient Aliens was true - I want to believe.

I believe religion is on the way out anyway. We are all more educated now and realise that belief without evidence is foolish. As for aliens, yeah I think they are out there but we are unlikely to encounter them.

A big problem is we only know how to look for what's familiar to us. There could be life everywhere but we just don't know what we're looking at. We are hoping that they drink water and their technology is based on the same principals.

Well life is easy to spot. It tends to be visible and animate. In our solar system only earth has life. However in an infinite universe life must also be infinite in it's existence.

You have to remember that the signals we have sent out have have traveled less than 1% across our galaxy so its very likely that nobody knows we’re here

Yeah I am aware of that. But that is us looking for them. What if they are looking for us? Maybe they know we are here and simply don't care or maybe they will never reach us because they exist in a part of the universe too far to travel here in a life time.

That is the signs of us as a civilisation in general - the earliest radio signals, etc. I think it is actually by area only something like 0.02% of our galaxy could directly sense them.

The problem with Fermi is that it assumes life on other planets will follow the same rules as our own yet even on this planet we're constantly discovering life in places we thought it could never exist.

What's to say in another galaxy the right circumstances happened in order for silicon based lifeforms to evolve and flourish or gas based intelligence etc we're basing rules on an entire universe based on 1 planet out of an unquantifiable amount of planets

Seriously?
"Worldwide, more than eight-in-ten people identify with a religious group".
It might be getting smaller in Britain but we've got the rest of the World to think about.

Religion used to be ubiquitous among people. But atheism is on the rise. Why put your faith into something for which there is no evidence? Foolish, no? Trust me, when society grows up and gets properly educated, religion will be gone.

I find it amusing that in America there are so many supposed alien sightings and yet no hard evidence. Seems to me like people just make stuff up. Attention seekers.

The Americans are more religious than we are, thus less rational :D

This too. We are a lonely planet.

I don't think so either, it will take 1000s of years or a near total wipe of man to start again.
No amount of education is going to change the mind of the religious, you can bring as many scientific facts in it as you want but you'll get nowhere.

Yes because they are totally indoctrinated. After a certain age you just can't change peoples minds like that.

I believe they are out there somewhere. The universe is far too vast for them not to be.

Do I think there are little green men in flying saucers visiting our planet though? I really don't think so :p

You do have a way with words Silver... There are other ways of conveying that you think religion is silly without calling the followers themselves "morons".
