EU Speed limiter

The system can be overridden temporarily. If a car is overtaking a lorry on a motorway and enters a lower speed-limit area, the driver can push down hard on the accelerator to complete the manoeuvre.

The car will not brake automatically when the speed limit is reduced, but will give the driver a visual warning instead. It is the driver's responsibility to obey the warning.

Can't see a problem.

Less speeding vehicles will be good for road safety.

On the rare occasion, it's necessary to floor it and nudge over the limit a little to get out of trouble IMO.

For example: When you're alongside a lorry with either a busy lane or the reservation to your right and they decide to start pulling out regardless... I think 3 blinks and out is their etiquette?

So yeah, I worry about not being able to override this sort of thing.

EU in being absolute control freaks shocker with the added bonus of putting cameras on every street corner. It's for our safety and security guys.

Non-story tbh.

The bill is not agreed and as usual, the devil's in the detail as some have pointed out.

Still, don't let that stop the outrage. Some people just need to be angry about something all the time.

Like with Windows Update ultimately the system lacks real life contextual awareness (computers just aren't that advanced) and even with the ability to somewhat override it a lot of potential for it to go wrong.

This will come whether we are in the EU or not.
I don't want it for selfish reasons. I love driving and having that control.
Id be ok with a 15pc above limit limiter.

Ill just have to buy a nice car before this comes in. On flip side it will save me loads of money on new car because it won't matter how fast it is. Will make electric cars with high acceleration more appealing.

I can completely see why they are doing it and know it will come, just when

Did people also yap when speed limiters were mandated for HGVs?

You have no right to mishandle a vehicle on a public road. You’ll just have to go vroom vroom around a closed airfield somewhere.

Who's angry? I'm concerned about not only this, but the ideological stance the EU takes on managing it's citizens, personal freedoms are not a consideration.

HGV speed limiters are a fixed upper limit not something that adjusts autonomously.

Fords already have this. Just turn it off of you don't like it.
It's just a button near the cruise control cluster. I leave it on, why not one less thing to worry about with all the smart motorways

For what it's worth my E class has semi-autonomous driving (Mercedes Driving assistant plus) and it's fantastic. I use it all the time and I can't imagine not having it on a car now.

It reads speed signs and adjusts the speed accordingly, it can steer itself around bends, it slows down when approaching roundabouts, it steers you back in to the centre of the road if you go too near the line, it can detect if you a tired etc.

I can of course speed over the limit, for the few occasions that it is safer to do that but I tend not to do that very much.

My car drove me back home 80% of the way back from Gatwick airport at 1 a.m the other week, with minimum input from myself.
