I certainly don't think keeping the current squad is going to work; how old will they be by the Euro's and World Cup?

Other then a couple of the current squad the rest shouldn't be considered for International football, it's time to invest and trust the youth.

It's also that applies to most England managers since '66 (which was one of the worst things to happen to English football in terms of on the pitch and attitude)

The same's been said pretty much with every manager ..erm.. well for a very long time.

Time to accept that the players are simply not good enough.

Because we get the wrong manager each time. Theres one thing that should be TOP of the CV when looking for an England international, one thing, "experienced INTERNATIONAL manager/player", we haven't hired one yet.

Experienced league manager is all well and good, what we need is someone capable and experienced in dealing with motivation, tactics and training, how to handle yourselves during a summer tournament.

Is it any wonder that Maradona, and Dunga, and a bunch of other ex successful international players, do better than top league coaches who have never had success or been part of a great international side? Ex international players, or even better an experienced ex international manager, hot sure how hard that is to work out. Hiddink has done insanely well at International level for several teams... yet we pay even more, again for one who was part of a crap international team(Italy were pants when Capello played) and no international managerial experience at all.

Either way, Young has not completely turned England around, but since he's been starting games England have been hugely improved, and switching to Wilshire/Parker either side of Lampard actually turned us into a half decent team, without Wilshire we'll have to see how that trio works and who gets slotted in. I can see Capello dropping Milner in there rather than Barry. Richards really should get a shot at right back long term, he's a freaking beast, a huge player at set pieces, offensive and defensive.

Rooney/Young for England should only benefit from them playing at club level...... and in saying that I just realised, and hope that Cleverley gets a chance in that midfield trio as he's very similar to Wilshire. In the future as Lampard drops out after 2012 probably, and parker, Wilshire/Cleverley on either side of a new DM would be a good combination. England don't really have any DM's for the future though, though we've got a lot of CB's of which several look really comftable on the ball, I could see Jones or Smalling as a DM.

Hart, Green, Stockdale; A Cole, Cahill, Terry, Baines. Jagielka, Smalling, Jones, Richards, Lescott; Downing, Barry, Johnson, Milner, Lampard, Cleverley, A Young, Parker, Walcott; Bent, Carroll, Rooney, Defoe.

Of that list who won't be around for the World cup, Parker, Lescott , jagielka/Terry/cole are 29-30, they may/may not be involved. Cole is stupid fit and very good with other than baines no one else really around yet. Barry shouldn't be involved now let alone in 4 years. Most of the rest are either young, or really young, with a decade left to play.

Young, Rooney, Hart, Cleverley, Wilshire, Carroll, Milner, Jones, Smalling, Richards, Baines all have between 8-15 years left to play.

Then you've got other guys on the brink of joining the team, Walker, Welbeck, Henderson and possibly Gibbs, who have all got more than a decade left to play aswell.

Did you even watch the world cup?

Don't get me started on that squad. I just hope he picks a decent first eleven from that.

There's too much criticism about England imo.

I'm happy with the fact that we'll never win the World Cup and I'm happy with reaching the quarters/semis every time. Why? Because I enjoy watching my country play, however painful it might be sometimes. And getting to the quarters is still a feat many teams have never and will never achieve.

Looking forward to Friday's game and the rest of the qualifiers!

Hart
Richards Smalling Jones A.Cole
Johnson Cleverley Wilshire Young
Rooney Welbeck

...should be the team we start playing together. Obviously thats not possible yet but that team would do business eventually. Who needs a DM.

Are you actually joking? This is complete horse manure, as Maradonna was utterly rubbish as Manager of Argentina.

They only let him carry on after he scraped the 1-0 win, in the 84th min, that they needed to get into the world cup.

Argentina were shocking under him.

Do you actually watch football? (mens football I mean)

Should be the team we start if we want to get beaten. Truly awful spine that would get butt ****** hard.

Adam Johnson hasn't played enough games for a start.

Wilshire is injured....

and why would you play smalling in the centre?

Maybe ripper is Scottish, and wants England to be violated in areas the team didnt know they had.

Someone should tell his manager to stop playing him as a makeshift wingback then.

;)

A Makeshift that is making defenders/wingers look silly, Kolarov especially in CC :D

Obviously if we had Rafael he'd be there, but why not play a lad who has shown he is perfectly capable of playing there, and giving him the match fitness and experience against players in the league.

Seems fairly common sense to me, remember Wes brown? well Smalling is like that... apart from he actually looks like a top quality player in the making, and Wes Brown couldn't pick a pass 5 foot in-front of him...

My team for England would be:

Hart
Richards, Smalling, Jones, Cole
Johnson, Cleverley, Wilshire, Young
Rooney.

(Same as somebody said above)

I think wilshire is dogged enough tackle well defensively, but also inter change with Cleverley going forward. the wings speak for themselves, why on earth James Milner ever gets a game ahead of Adam Johnson bewilders my mind, youth, oodles of talent, just needs more time on the pitch, every time Adam Johnson plays he looks a real threat at both Assisting and Scoring himself.
