Euro Truck Simulator 2 worthy of purchase

So... I want to give this game a go as I'm fed up with not having enough time to "Get Gud" at twitchy shooters and just want to relax. I might even take a look into modding given I used to dabble in the old GTA games.

Anyway, as a new player should I bother with the 1.4 beta or stick with the current release and some mods?

Also, can I get away with using a pad and keyboard or will I be really limiting myself? I have a G27 but not quite the space to set it up. If I did I'd likely just play ACC or iRacing instead :D

I'm just playing the current release and workshop mods, also you'll be fine using a pad, that's how I play it with my little boy, works just fine

Nice one, thanks. Seen some mod lists on previous pages so will take a look at those :). Looking forward to playing later. Good point RE playing with your lad too, mines only 2.5 but he'll love to watch as he's obsessed with all things automotive.

Yeah there are some decent mods to add onto the game... I got the scania open pipe mod  yeah my kids just love beeping the horn as I'm driving down the motorway :p

I use a control pad but you do need a keyboard to press the occasional button.

The biggest mod is probably 'promod' which adds tonnes of extra content and we'll worth having, but you need all the extra map DLCs to use it which is cheap enough tbh. every time the core game is updated though, it tends to break promods.. Until the promods team can catch up.

Truck sim 2 has a built in mod manager in game, so you just dump all your mod files into the relevant directory and then you can switch them on and off in game for any compatibility issues.

Well I had fun last night for my first go at it, just taking quick jobs. Did an escorted mission which was unexpected and also came across a police blocked junction with a helicopter in the exit.

Need to find myself my mods now. Couldn't register for the ProMod forum to download it annoyingly, sent them a message.

My kids are playing this online together at the moment. I see the DLCs are on offer on Steam this weekend, so any recommendations from the Road to the Black Sea, Beyond the Baltic Sea or Italy DLCs? We've got Going East, Scandinavia and France, and I've told them they can have two of the three. :-)

Italy is really beautiful. I am not keen on the eastern European countries as they don't hold any kind of interest to me - no desire to visit, etc. Probably won't bother with "Heart of Russia" when it comes along either. "Road to the Black Sea" is a bit out of the way as it doesn't link to anywhere else yet so "Beyond the Baltic Sea" is probably better for the 2nd choice.

Yeh Italy for sure. Also High power cargo, Special transport and Heavy cargo packs are £1.20 each at the moment, might be worth considering.

So looking on CDKEYS, I can see 4 main base games:

Euro Truck Simulator 2
Euro Truck Simulator 2 Gold
Euro Truck Simulator 2 GOTY
Euro Truck Simulator 2 Legendary Edition

The price range is £5.99 up to £9.79 so obviously the cost isn't an issue.

Is there any oddball reason not to go for the Legendary Edition?
