Euromillions

Simply paying off loads of mortgages would make a huge difference for a lot of people.

Define huge sums? Would it be wise to give lots of people over £1 million? Probably not, reading up on it, I'm pretty sure that a lot of people's lives have been ruined by winning large sums of money.

I .

lots of people maybe, many more people will be absolutely fine with it. Why not 1million.

You also do realize cars are not the be all and end all for most people. A posh car is all most people want, not something outrages.but they might drop a few million on a house or other stuff.

You just aren't going to keep it quite. Pay peoples mortgages off and they still know you won, way more than 2mill. It doesn't take many mortgages to wipe such a low winning out.

All famous people will have to deal with the letters and other fan related stuff, there's ways to deal with it. Like paying someone to sort mail. Or just not bother with mail in the first place.

I think you're over estimating the media's desire to uncover or expose lottery winners that wish to remain anonymous, it's not like in the early days when it was new and the first few winners were headline news.

All it takes is one person to go to the sun or other newspaper and ask for a grand.
This is also the second biggest lottery win, not a run of the mill few mill lottery.

If there are any millionaires out there who want to test this theory, I'm willing to put myself forward as a guinea pig and accept the burden of being given a million quid to see if my life crumbles apart as a result :D

Who said anything about 2 million?

Why would you even need to tell people how much you won?

No need to lie, just say "I won the lottery (:D)".

You can spend 90 grand a week and not eat into your capital if you simply stuck the whole lot in a bank account at 3% interest.

:o

Except you would have to pay tax on any interest you gained, so it would be less than 90k per week.

Even though it would still be a lot!

You could probably buy one of those high-court injunction thingies if it came to it?

You wouldn't need to, I really don't think "man wins lottery" is big news any more and can't see the papers 'exposing' you if you didn't go public. The media are too interested in the marriages and affairs of the famous to bother with a lottery winner who didn't give them their name.

Maybe your local paper would have an interest in naming you but I don't think the nationals are that bothered either way.

2million is about what a normall lottery is.
No need to tell, you don't need to, it's easy to work out, timing + money spent. This win is so far above a normal win and they will spend far more than a normal winner could spend.

Wait 6 months then? Wait a year? Say you're going traveling, hell maybe even go traveling for a while!

Loads of options. All are much better than advertising the win to the whole country.

How you going to wait? You quit your job and spending money.

You telling me, you going to try and carry on as normal for 6months to a year wasting your life just to miss media which can be delat with. What a waste and unrealistic.

How can you deal with hitmen, gangs and random people asking for money? Not to mention the family and friends that you never knew existed?

I'd have no problem with quiting and leaving :) how can you say it's unrealistic? You know nothing about me or my situation, perhaps it is for you, but I could do it quite easily.

Two options:

1) Go public and people will know who you are and will come asking for money

2) Don't go public and within 1 month no-one will care, if in that time no-one has found out who you are then great.

I'd rather give 2 a shot than go straight with option 1.

Precisely.

Gangs and hitmen?

Friends and family that I never knew existed would be easy, just don't allow them through the guarded gates of :p.

In fact I think if I won a large enough sum I would buy houses all over the world. California, Canada and Switzerland being a few I would love to alternate living in. So I wouldn't care who knew I had won back in Britain tbh.

Gangs and hitmen?

Yeah, just google stories about previous winners.

Can't find the exact story about gangs but one guy was glad he lost his money because he had been attacked several times by gangs demanding money.

Plenty of stories out there where people (usually family I think) have hired hitmen to kill lottery winners.

I would allways go no publicity,if the papers got wind of my win through a grass that's up to them to chase me and expose me as a playboy who nails hookers week in week out lol:p

Still on the shopping list, wouldn't need that much to get something like this to make me happy, plus i can use simulatorman to open and close the thing and bring me coffee on tap:):)

Why wouldn't you give huge sums of money to family/friends.

Unfortunately, giving money to people, in general, never ends well.
The people who you give money to will be happy. But the people who you gave less to, or did not give anything to, will not be happy.

Personally, I'd much rather buy each family member (and closest friend) 1 house and thats it. No more. This way, everyone gets setup with their own property, mortgage free, which I think, is a HUGE gift.

If you want to create enemies, the best way to do this is to start giving money to friends and family. Its unfortunate, but there are people out there, who feel that just because you have money, that they are entitled to it. And if you don't give them money, then you are the bad guy in all of this.

Just watch Judge Judy. On there, you have friends and close family members fighting over money. I even saw a young 18-20 year old kid, taking his mother to court, to get some money.

Money is the root of all evil.

If I won the Euromillions the thing I'm genuinely most excited about would be phoning my mother to tell her a huge lump sum was on the way and that she could retire.

I'd give the same to my Dad, but that's where it ends. I'd do loads of stuff for people, but my parents would be the only ones who I flat out gave money too.

I wouldn't even tell my mother to start with, I'd be off to London to collect it / get the advise and make a portfolio of it wherever, then I'd be ringing her from some desert island asking her where she wanted to live and how she wanted to get there. :)
"meet you there in a week when ive got the paperwork together" sort of thing.
Next up would be ringing mates to settle their debts with the world, mortgage, credit card, whatever. I certainly wouldn't be splurging "millions" on them.
Then the party... Yacht, Monaco, mates, all expenses paid holiday to all invited.
Then whoosh, I'd be gone.
World, oyster, BRING IT ON!
