Eurovision Thread

Bulgaria was not in the actual eurovision? Thats a discrace as it would have been one of the best songs there, certainly blows the UK's entry away and the winner russia's.

and if terry wogan retires

get Clarkson, May and Hammond to do it together...stick them in a room with a load of wine and a telly..then have that picture in picture so they can comment, get ****** and more opiniated as the night goes on..they can also then try to guess who is going to vote for who!

good idea :D
may with his knowledge, hammond probably looking at the female contestands & clarkson just giving his opinion on the tracks

We did this on Sat with a few drinks. I won as I guessed most of the 8 10 and 12 point votes correctly.

Pretty easy if you know your geography.

I absolutley agree with that. Denmarks song was the best. Turkeys was ok.

BUT WHAT ABOUT BULGARIA! they didn't even make it through the semi's yet people like spain and bosnia did. How insulting.

Bulgaria's entry:

I reckon the reason was Bulgaria stick up for kosovo and not Serbia.

I completely agree with this
moreover ,the female singer is a beauty:D

btw, this version of Moskau is much better:D

The woman's live performance was really awful. Plus it was never exactly going to appeal to everyone. Still, it very nearly qualified. It finished 11th in the semi-final with the top 9 qualifying + one jury choice. btw, Spain didn't make it through the semi-final; they automatically qualify as part of the big 4. Your "reason" for Bulgaria not qualifying is stupid given that Serbia gave 5 points to Bulgaria in the semi-final (as an aside, the UK gave them zero).

As for the funding we give, I am not sure how much we actually give but the figure I heard quoted was 400,000 euros. That plus the other costs involved with showing it is surely quite low for three (seven if you include semi-finals) hours worth of programming? I would imagine that an episode of Doctor Who costs far more than that yet gets fewer viewers and only yields a third of the length. Unless of course, you propose to show a blank screen during the three hours that Eurovision would normally be on?

And last place doesn't mean that people thought that our song was worst. It just meant that the fewest people thought it was the best which is hardly surprising. How could a song so bland be anyboy's favourite? Some song like the Spainish one may have been worse but it had defining features which clearly made people want to vote for it.

Finally, people overrate Terry Wogan's contribution to Eurovision's viewing figures. The Eurovision Dance Contest did not have Terry Wogan commentating and drew just under 4 million. As music is more popular than dancing and the song contest is generally far more well known, I would imagine that it would still get decent ratings for a Saturday night. If this is the case, Terry Wogan can go away for all I care. I can make up my own nasty jokes about Eastern Europeans if I feel that way inclined. Do people really only watch because they like watching him degrade people?

So was the semi's still voted on by the public?

Yes. Each semi-final had 19 countries who all performed then there was a televote just like in the final. Except in the semi-final, only the other countries in that semi-final and 2 from the big 4 were allowed to vote. 10 qualify from each which are the top 9 in the televote and 1 which is selected by a jury.

TBH i think if we actually entered a famous act as all other countires do e.g. Russia entering TaTu and that guy who won this year who also came 2nd in 2006.

If we entered Muse or someone internationally famous...leona lewis :S. I think we would get the votes as all of them would be like "YA FAMOUS PERSON!"

you need a band/act that is revered in eastern europe and russia

we should get The Hoff! he can sing a rock ballad, people can wave lighters in the air..get some hot chicks as backing singers/dancers and in the spirit of the Russians having a figure skating champion on their stage..we need a world famous english sportsmen on stage with them...maybe Beckham doing some ball juggling/keepy ups aongside them

a sure fire winner for success!

The Eastern block voting never bothered me..... Wogan's commentary was
legendary (which is pretty much based on the obvious voting patterns)

On the grape vine it is meant to be Graham Notron... not sure if that is true... really gonan miss wogan :(
